More pics.. More in the link: news.nationalpost.com/2011/10/12/photos-of-the-day-oct-12-2011/Really hope he's somewhat happy in his life overall.. I would never do what he did, but it's not like he's the only person whose done something like this, lots of people do plastic surgery to their faces and body every day to try to look younger or prettier. Usually they end up looking just weird.

Well, he's not hurting anybody from doing this- so, where's the harm? It seems a bit extreme to do plastic surgery (aside from the cases where there's an extreme birth deformity or health is at risk and there's no other option)---- but not everyone can be happy with what they see in the mirror. Not everyone is born good looking or have environments that lay a good foundation for self-esteem enough NOT to head down that path. Again, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone....

You know, if I was going to spend a fucking fortune and risk my health on surgery, I would have tried to look like Christopher Reeve and not Brandon Routh.

The guy obviously has major issues. Should spend a fortune on a shrink to come to terms with his real self instead of a fictional character. I wonder how many times he spends alone looking in the mirror

There was a guy in high school that would often dress up as Han Solo for many events. He was derided by many of the guys of the school. On the flip side, he did resemble Harrison Ford a little and got many of the cute girls. The girls didn't mind if it seemed a bit weird. They thought it cool that he had courage to be a little different from the pack. I guess that guy should see a shrink so that he can be 'normal' like everyone else and think and behave exactly like everyone else, eh?

Er, I don't think you can compare a guy dressing up at events, impressing chicks, to this

Well, it looks like he's helping the economy & not hurting anyone.... In short, I'd rather see someone over-the-top with Superman exist than someone over-the-top with a love for guns in his bedroom. (Ironically, the guy with a thousand guns in his bedroom would probably be considered more 'normal'.) I'd be a little more alarmed if someone with a gun was running loose on the streets, as opposed to running around in tights and a cape.

Very strange man; and sad that he seems to miss the point of Superman too.
Regardless of whether you believe MJ was a paedo or not, there is something pretty unsavoury and inappropriate about a grown man having pyjama parties and sharing a bed with children whom he hasn't any sort of genuine relation or connection. Absolutely the parents' fault too though, either through naivety or neglegence.

i wouldn't be surprised if this Pinoy guy lurks here. If he's a big enough Supes fan he would've easily found this board

One could look at this story in different ways... #1: As fuel to feel superior to other people who don't behave conventionally, even if they aren't harming anyone... -or- #2: With sadness and come to the conclusion that some folks can't accept what they look like, and feel comfortable only in the skin of a fictional character... -or- #3: Take a step back and think: 'maybe for some folks, life isn't that happy or great, no matter what they do--- if, in some way, the image of Superman makes them feel better'- who cares if they're not harming anyone? At least he's not (from what we can tell anyways) trying to coerce people into paying him money by taking pictures with him, true?

If that guy really saw himself as Superman, he'd use his resources to help others.
It looks like a giant vanity project to me.
I don't feel superior looking at him at all - I just feel very sad for him. I am guessing his life is quite empty

Could well be.
Still, there's a LOT of people who hate/dislike how they look and keep going to get plastic surgeries- and some do get addicted to it- it IS all vanity, no getting around that....
But, I think the thing that makes this story a little more interesting is that it's based on the image of Superman. Not the image of Routh or Reeve, but Superman.
To me, it's like seeing a neighbor's kid that overnight decides he wants to get piercings and blue hair and/or a tatoo or maybe other plastic surgery.
If it was my neighbor's kid, and he went out looking like and dressed like Superman on the street, I'd have a mixed reaction: On one hand, I'd think it was amusing, as I love the character...
On the other hand, I'd think: 'boy, for my neighbor's sake, I hope his son doesn't get beat up on the street for being different.'
So, that's my take. The whole thing with plastic surgery addiction is another level- but just the fact that it's based on Superman is unique. other folks I've heard have those obsessions with looking like Elvis or some other celeb., so it doesn't phase me quite as much I think after hearing/reading so many of those kinds of stories.

Whatever the reason, it isn't healthy. He's like a freak, you can't help but keep watching, but I highly doubt I'd want to be close to him in any way. Really hope he's nice to others and that he's somehow happy with his lifestyle.

Who knows? But then again, how many people do you know that TRULY live a healthy lifestyle? We're all guilty of indulgences and vanities, to different degrees..... On the flip side, if plastic surgery actually LOOKED natural--- nobody would know if anyone had ANYTHING done. The fact that it doesn't look natural is what calls attention to itself. There's a program where plastic surgeons go to different countries where small children with EXTREME physical deformities who are ostracized within their own community get free plastic surgery to 'fit in' to their society. Nobody questions or mocks that- But- whatever demons a person has inside about their looks- everyone has to deal with it in a different way. If someone has GIGANTIC self-esteem for who they are inside, then that probably transcends any plastic surgery that's performed and comes out. If someone is dubious about what's inside to begin with..... then plastic surgery is probably just like a gambling addiction--- that can never be enough and only go downhill from there. (Plus, what happens when he gets older? More surgeries to stay young? Or maybe this just fills a need for this stage of life and he'll grow past it? Who can say?)

well, i certainly idolize superman. i'd go as far as getting a tattoo. but this is a cry for help if i've ever seen one, as far as " needing to "BE" superman", i think that any fan who truly gets superman DOES want to "be" him - in the sense that we want to take every occasion to be as kind and helpful and selfless as we can. it's that whole secular-jesus thing.
