www.imdb.com/title/tt2027128/Watched it this morning. What another excellent DC movie. They sure know how to entertain. Loved the return of the original voice cast (aside from John Stewart Hal Jordan voiced by Nathan Fillon this time round). Wishful thinking to hope they stay with this cast but no such luck. However, George Newbern is return for Superman's next outing. It felt like a proper JL episode. I'd give it 9/10.

Oh I can't wait. CO2E was fantastic. Even though it had a different cast it had that same great feel as JLU. And why oh why isn't Nathan Fillion playing Hal Jordan for real? he was great in Emerald Nights and I expect him to be great in this.
Tower of Babel was a pretty fun story so Doom could be amazing. Makes sense to use the JL/JLU cast because they are so familiar with each other and worked well together.
Is Newburn Superman or is it Daly? I like Newburn but I hope its Daly just to hear what that whole group dynamic sounds like.

This is out already? Nice.
It's been a LONG time since the DCU has put out a shitty animated movie. Last one was Braniac Attacks or Doomsday, which ever was last, but since then, pretty much all gold.

Looking forward to it. These, unlike live-action films, almost never disappoint.
Doomsday sucked a fat one, though.

Yeah Doomsday wasn't great. It is Daly. It's not in the same continuity as DCAU though!

Happy to hear its Daly. Its a different continuity but this dynamic will be very interesting. We basically get to hear the JLU cast the way it was first envisioned (minus Stewart and Hawkgirl).
Superman: Doomsday was weak and Gotham Knight didn't work as well as I hoped but excluding those to the DC animated movies have an almost perfect track record.
Brainiac Attacks was a quickly thrown together cash grab to capitalize off Superman Returns. Its a DC movie but I'm not sure its ever really been seen as part of this line of DCU original animated movies. Either way it was an embarrassment. Lance Hendrickson as Brainiac seemed perfect on paper (even though he's not the awesome Corey Burton) but the material failed him. He was great as a Decepticon in Transformers Animated.

Looking at the cast list on IMDB...was Aquaman part of the Tower of Babel storyline? I swear he was. Cyborgs in the film version.
I notice a few other returning voice actors from JLU . David Kaufman is back as Jimmy...but sadly no Delany as Lois. Bummer. Phil Morris is back as Vandal Savage and Olivia d'Abo (mmmm) is back as Star Sapphire. Loved both of them. d'Abo's gotten a lot of work as that character in various different shows and movies.
I'm guessing Savage stands in for Ra's in this version of the story. Geek tangent here but I've always wanted to see many more dealings between those two characters in the comics.

Yeah... it was HORRIBLE. Hearing that Bruce Timm hated the original comics it was based on, killed me..... thus, the dirvergence from the 'Death of Superman' portions.
Fortunately, Timm has done so much right for DC animated heroes, I think he gets a 'pass' or two.
But, still..... why even make a Superman film called Doomsday if you hate the comics? *sigh*

The changes didn't bother me because its not the first time that's been done and people enjoyed the film. I just thought the pace was way off.
I'm not surprised he disliked Death because while it was a cool slugfest The first third of the overall Death/Funeral/Reign storyline was a mindless slugfest. Funeral For a Friend and Reign of the Supermen is where the story really got interesting.
Timm and co didn't really do that part justice. Some condensing was necessary but they missed the mark.
The Death of Superman AND Doomsday were handled better (separately) on Justice League. I thought Hereafter and the two episodes featuring Doomsday were great.

Bruce Timm really botched both the death and the aftermath, I agree.
Also, I agree that "Funeral For a Friend" and "Reign of the Superman" were very well done parts ' of the 'Death of Superman' series---far more interesting than I thought that they were going to be, (and it's interesting how the 'death of Captain America' later on seemed to borrow from this)--- I know more than a few fans that felt that, because of it, that they would have stretched out the 'death' for one more year, before he returned, to really sink in the impact of the saga.

That era shall always be the greatest for me. Going to the comic shop every week to see if Superman was back yet. That entire run was so fucking phenomenal.

Agree. That was a great time for DC & Superman comics. The death storyline can only be done once & in a big way once. I'm glad Supes was the first to pull it off.
All other major death storylines that came after him don't sell as much as his or impact the fandom as much

The EXCITEMENT around that time with Superman I'll always remember--- it was far more than even the Byrne reboot, among even my friends who weren't into comics at the time...
Also, loved the discussions and (wrong) speculations at the comic shops weekly about when/how he would return.
Definitely a 'high time' for Superman comics.....it's a pity the interest in the Superman comics AFTER that wasn't sustained as well as it could have/should have been...
*sigh*

eh, the Death and Return was the culmination of 8 years of continuity. Especially the 3 or 4 years leading up to it, when the books REALLY started getting good. Once we started getting storylines like "Day of The Krypton Man" around 1990 or so, the Superman books were really great...they just didn't sell. Hence, the Death.
But I have one longbox that is every Superman comic from the Byrne reboot up through Reign Of The Supermen. As far as I'm concerned, it's a "perfect set". The fact that the books declined in quality almost immediately after doesn't bother me, as I've got roughly 300 great Superman comics that almost all feel like they're building towards something, and the payoff is pretty great!

that....& i particularly like "Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite" too. Supes lost his powers & I followed closely the story right up to the finale (i think it's Superman#50) when he got his powers back. It was an adrenalin rush seeing him getting his powers back, & the panels depicted exactly that too. I think it's Breeding's inks on Jurgen's pencils

My favorite pairing ever in art. I know it's ridiculous but they're just IT for me. I love the two of them together. Also Jurgens and Thibert.
Frankly, I find the the Superman comics from when Jurgens came and went to all be great. The Time and Time Again stuff? SO fucking fun.

Breeding makes anyone's pencils look good, period. His has great control over line pressure & is neat. The varied line thickness in his works is always a delight to watch & I pore over the details everytime
Too bad Jurgen's post-Death works are more frequently inked by Josef Rubenstein (which i dont enjoy as much) rather than Breeding

Oh, the suit in this is the best yet. Currently watching JLU and I don't like the dark blue of the suit. I can understand if it's too blue it looks more cartoony but I think in Doom they've cracked it. The S is more or less Reeve's too!

Rubenstein sucked. But the Jurgens was still there, at least. I also REALLY loved Stuart Immonen's work on Superman.
Watching Doom tonight!

I just watched this. Pretty damn good. I like that, besides the Leagers, they mixed a few returning voice actors from JL and STAS with new people. I caught David Kaufman's voice right away.
I LOOOOOOVED Claudia Black as Cheetah. Somehow those two click together perfectly in my head. Now she's what I'll hear in my head whenever I read Cheetah dialog.
This is probably my idea JL team voice cast.
Interesting that Rosenbaum IS playing Barry Allen in this and not a new version of Wally West. Guess it was mandated that it would be Barry. On JL he played Wally with elements of the Barry character.
Its not a close match to Tower of babel but even though it goes off in its own direction I still like it. The story definitely brings the epic. Dammit why did McDuffie have to die? He was a good writer. I'd love it if he ever scripted that Justice League movie I'll never see in my lifetime. If anyone could make that work he could have.
Cyborg comes close to being "The Wesley" but its not so bad.

J
ust saw it. Loved it. As per usual- wish it was live action. Fill it up to 2 hours plus - the cartoon requires a depth of familiarity that needs fleshed out for mass audience. But IF wb/dc had the ....ability.... to BUILD to a justice league movie.... this would be the one. Its apples and oranges with "tower of babel". Its barely the same plot.
This will hit all your inner nerdgasms-and give you the f*ck yeah badass violent bits you're craving.
Go ahead and buy it.
