A source of mine tells me otherwise. Funny how WB haven't made an official announcement. Alan Horn makes them official announcements, not Robinov. I guess we'll see then. Personally, I don't buy the whole "i have a source" thing. These days, everyone has a source. I'm not asking you to believe me. I'm not asking anyone to believe me. I just report the stuff I hear from time to time. Not always. There will be an official announcement from Warner Brothers (not from a third party) in the coming weeks that will put things to rest. But, from what I know Singer and Routh are still attached to the project. Yes, Robinov wants a reboot. That is clear, but Alan Horn and Thomas Tull want a sequel. So, we'll have to wait and see. It's up to Singer and the writers, if they deliver THE script Warners wants then we have a revamp sequel. If not, the next Superman movie will be derailed for some time. |

My point being, comparing a tv show that has much more time than a film isn't quite fair. Right, its had 7 years to get less stupid, & has failed miserably. The Donnerverse is now the accepted version of the Mythos for most. The Powers & Do's & Donts have been in place for a long time now. Its a fact. |

I appreciate your efforts, and in fact signed the petition, but I feel Welling's chance as Superman in a feature film has come and gone. Ideally, "Smallville" would have stuck to its five-year-plan and transitioned into a motion picture after the finale. Now I just don't see it happening. It's entering its eighth season, key characters (more importantly the actors who play them) like Lex Luthor and the Kents have left the series, and any logical transition point from "Smallville" to "Superman" has been passed up in favor of unecessarily extending the series. Honestly, the best we can hope for is a feature length series finale featuring Superman's reveal to the world. That said, I'd love to see this happen and if WB does decide to reboot after all, passing up both Routh and Welling would be ridiculous and fans across the internet and thusly the world would rise up in protest. I'll be the first to admit it probably won't happen. Last time we were getting a new superman film most people just sat waiting for news. Its a fact. just because something is accepted by the majority, doesn't make it right. Superman changes daily, in the films,tv, and in the comics today. The standards and givens are much more simple than that. There is no official "law" for Superman. That being said, I do have my own personal preferences, but in no way will I claim my way is the "right way" or "the law" so to speak. |

We love to joke & slag off on things here at the board. Not much is sacred here. Alot of us just like putting down Smallville. It doesnt make us right, nor does it make you wrong. But don't come here & call us childish just because we like to have a laugh. You came to a board that is by & large Pro-Routh. What did you expect? Would I go a to a Smallville board & put up a Big Pro Routh post? Probably not. But, that said, your opinion is welcome. Just dont get mad when its countered. No one has personally attacked you. Aside from our opinions, welcome to the board tw4s. I'm not as anti-Welling as the rest of the guys, but the stuff you've put forth is criticizes the plot of Superman Returns. That is separate from the actor Brandon Routh, who I think did a fine job. Now whether or not his material was up to snuff, we filled Superman's shoes quite well, and I would really like to see him back.

I just hate Welling & Smallville with a passion. They are exactly what they are: a Superman for the CW crowd.
But, yes, you are quite welcome.
Although If Welling were Supes in a new movie, I would totally wait for it on DVD, & even then, I'd only rent it.
Routh to me is as perfect as it gets for Superman.
SR's problems aside.

No he didn't, he became a boy of steel for the WB teen market. Dean cain had more credibility as a *Superman* than Welling.
SR is heavily flawed - but not as much as SV IMO.

Why would anyone want Welling when we have a far better candidate in Routh already in the role?
Even in a complete reboot I'd much rather see Routh reprise his role.
Just because Returns was a misstep is no reason to punish Routh by ejecting him from the role.
On the same tone why reward Welling for the misstep that is Smallville by promoting him.
I'd much rather see a Returns sequel that is just more focused with a better script and tone even if it has to contradict Returns in areas to do so.
Think of it as a dislocated arm that's put back in place. Same arm just a slight adjustment and back in place. Yes it will hurt at first but you'll feel all the better for it afterwards. No need to amputate it.

The only Superman movie I can ever see with Tom Welling is a Smallville movie. He's not capable as a movie I don't think. I love Smallville. I watch it every week but I think they are completely lacking the sense of reality in that show. It's soooo far fetched. I know Superman is about a alien who was raised a human but they jumped the boat themselves a long time ago. I think, had they done the show more realistic from the begining and donw a proper origin story instead of every episode being coincidental e.g. today he gets X-Ray vision and having never needed it before, the day he gets it is the day he needs it. SR has it's flaws, everyone here will admit to that. heck ADM's Superman Returns is twice the film Singer produced. But Routh is a much better Superman. Welling as Superman would have to do something COMPLETELY different as everyone would recognise him. This season he'd better start seperating Clark from Superman. He's a child in Smallville and a bit of a creep. He is a leader in Smallville, he's immature and I don't think many would watch it as a LOT of people hate the show. But I do like it only in TV format!
