Apart from his average physicality in the role, can you say anything bad about Routh?
But you can't always blame Welling for the material he's given to work with.

No, bannings don't work like that around here. Maybe on another boards. But, our community has the final say so on who's to be banned permanently, if it ever comes to that. Enjoy your stay, TW4S. There are a few Welling supporters on the board, and I'm one of them. Not to replace Routh, but I do like Welling and Smallville.

I'd like to see Welling in the suit on tv, but not in the movies.

Ya know, that's something that Millar and Gough promised they'd never do. Now that they're out of the picture, anything could happen.
I wouldn't mind seeing that happen either, but only on the FINAL episode.

He didn't have a ton of lines either, so we didn't exactly see his full potential. That can be both good and bad. Does he really have what it takes? Who knows.

Both Welling and Routh are so identified with the storylines/situations that they were in- that the perfect solution to keep EVERYONE happy (enough) would be to do this (maybe): * Welling for a series of SMALLVILLE movies, after the series' ends, straight to dvd or on television. * Routh for big-budget Superman films with Singer directing/producing. Or, heck..... have two big-budget Superman movies come out in the theatres- one that connects directly to SMALLVILLE and one that connects directly to SR. I'd pay to see them both, though I think it's clear where I stand if you could only have one. ;p ((Would most likely never happen, given how WB has approached things in the past, but seems like it would be ideal situation to make Welling and Routh fans happy))

I would be satisfied with this. A series of direct-to-DVD movies akin to Stargate and Battlestar Galactica would be perfect for Smallville. Heck, just one movie woudl be fine by me but the more the merrier. The way I see it, fans have followed Welling's road to Superman for years now, and they deserve a pay-off. A shirt-rip in the last 10 seconds in the series just isn't going to cut it. After investing into Welling's Clark and Rosebaum's Lex parallel journeys to destiny, it's only fair that we get to see them go at it in their "never ending battle" at Superman VS. Luthor. And although the chances of such an event are slim to none, imagine a "Crisis on Infinte Earths" style story with Routh VS. Welling. ;D

Great idea Kirok.
No matter what happens with the Superman film franchise in terms of continuity right now, I'd really like Routh to return. The guy has the potential to be one of the all time greats in terms of live action superhero roles, and it'd be a shame to not let him develop.

Haven't followed Smallville since Season 2, not because I dislike it but because I suck at following TV shows, even ones I'm interested in.
Now I don't know if Welling's performance went downhill post Season 2, but I liked Welling in the role.

He's done a decent job. He works with what the writers give him. At times, it's a bag of poo. And at times, he strikes gold. It just depends. Some of this recent stuff is pretty good, though.

Male, 23 years old Superman fan (via comics and the reeve films) since I was 3. Your point ? Read the rest of the thread and you'll understand. Stop being a smartass. To those that don't like Smallville, fine. But Jesus guys, lay off tw4s will ya? You wanna welcome people to this forum so to do this you rip the guy to pieces? Good going. I like Smallville, and I liked SR. but Routh wasn't THAT good. He didn't look like Superman or sound like him either. Sorry, my opinion. His voice was too high. Plus he can't act.

His voice was deeper than Reeve's...the quintessential Superman. The acting thing I can say okay to, for what little opportunities he was given in terms of screen time. But the voice? Welling sounds like his balls have yet to drop and by comparison he makes Routh sound like Barry White. Ooooooohhh...baby.
