I liked it.
I loved Cavill and Amy Adams, and I loved isolated parts of the movie.
However, there were other parts that were crap, and the overall structure and writing was crap too.
The two effects cancel each other out though, so that the overall result = like.

I think I'd be suprised if anyone on this board out and out HATED the movie.... Everyone has waited too long for this film- and there are elements that are fresh that can be enjoyed. Pity there's no option between 'LIke' and 'Hate'..... I have this odd feeling that it's highly possible that the reaction to this film might be less split if it was titled ahead of time: "Man of Steel into Darkness"- Gives more of a heads up.

I liked it. I loved certain aspects of the film but didn't love the film as a whole.
The structure, the pacing and the repetitiveness of the final battle and subsequent ending after that BIG moment with Zod take quite a bit away from it.

It's a pity there's no extended cut, eh? Might smooth out a lot.... I wish SNYDER wanted to do one (he did with Sucker Punch AND Watchmen, why not MOS?)

There really was very little that was original about MoS. They tweaked some details here and there, but still, it was just the same old generic movie. Like Batman Begins or Spiderman.
I am getting bored of superhero movies where there is a villain who wants to destroy or take over the world or a city or whatever. It's been done to death.
One of the reasons I like the Dalton Bond movies is because the bad guys were not formulaic. Especially in LTK. It was getting too much with all the world domination/destruction plots. Sanchez was an interesting villain to say the least.

Well....
The superhero film/movie IS a 'genre' film... So there are certain things that one wants/expects in it, almost all the time- regardless.
1. A Superhero 2. A Villain 3. A superhero battle (of some sort)
Also--- a Superman film can be/is sort of/ a movie adaptation of an existing body of work*- and since Superman's primary body of work is/are serialized comic books, where EVERYTHING is done to death....
(*Thus, why people are up at arms if the character/bits feel like it contradicts what exists)
By the nature of a Superman film being a genre film and an adaptation of comic books, where fans (pretty much) don't really want change--- Inherently, there's going to be little that feels original or not done before. I just feel like it's about how truthful it feels and hangs together that'll make or break it (creatively).

As for Dalton, one of his bond films is decent, the other is as you would say, 'crap'

Love it. Probably more than most. And its not a "I love superman so I WANT it to be good"- as my superman obsessiveness makes me quite finicky.
Frankly- I am completely dimayed by the hate. And I'm NOT talking about anyone here, I respect you lot as your opinions are informed and with a depth of knowledge. I don't even mind those who have NO opinion based on a lack of interest. (I've had all but no interest in several superman media)
But I look at that rottentomato score and I can only shrug. Its a total disconnect from reality. Got to chat with eccentric and belloq recently, and they were about the same, belloq loves it almost as much as me, eccentric a little less- but the rt score is unfathomable.

Well, I'm loving the healthy back and forth debate with everyone here- For my part, I really am enjoying being able to listen to everyone's different perspectives on this film. It might have been boring if it was a lovefest (not that I'm disappointed that MOS didn't turn out that way), I suppose.
The rottentomatoes score thing is odd.
On one hand, I admire that it at least TRIES to put some calculation/ summation on what the general reaction is (Is there any other site that does it well? I don't mind checking out another one, if there is one)....
But- Their rating results are definitely odd. STM: Critics: 93% /// Audiences: 77% SII: Critics: 89% /// Audiences: 66% RDC: Critics: 90% /// Audiences: 75% SIII:Critics: 26% /// Audiences: 39% SIV: Critics: 09% /// Audiences: 28% SR: Critics: 75% /// Audiences: 67% MOS: Critics: 56% /// Audiences: 82%
I don't think they're intentionally screwing up, but maybe it's just a flawed system?
In any case--- if it ends up with giant giant giant boxoffice- then there's an undeniable factor that blows away any/all ratings: Either a lot of people like it, or enough people LOVE it enough to keep paying to see it many many many times.
Reviews are reviews, but money seems to be (most of the time) the thing that talks to Hollywood the most- or the factor that Hollywood will ultimately listen to the most.

Like.
Love would've meant a Superman movie that would've had the writing and execution of the Nolan Bat films to go along with the action.
I think the reason people didn't like the controversial aspect of the movie is that they didn't build up to it. It just kinda came out of nowhere with seemingly no regard for the character's long established history. I don't mind breaking the rules as long as when you do it you do it right: build up to it and make it a powerful moment, which IMO, this wasn't.
It's a shame that they haven't been able to muster an A+ Superman film since 1980, arguably 1978. There were definitely moments throughout MOS that I thought they were going to equal STM or SII, but they didn't. The action and visuals were good, but they forgot to beef up the substance.
What we ended up with was superficial eye candy.
I also thought Amy Adams was just kinda there. Her involvement also seemed fairly trivial. Certainly I've been less than thrilled with her as a choice strictly from a superficial standpoint, since I don't find her attractive. However, I *was* expecting her acting chops to come through for the character in the same way Margot Kidder wasn't the hottest chick, but nailed the character acting-wise. Didn't happen here IMO. Though she wasn't given a lot to work with in terms of the script, she also didn't really stand out IMO.
Cavill was excellent. Best Superman since Reeve (and I *do* like Cain, Welling and Routh in varying degrees). I did enjoy Russell Crowe and Kevin Costner, (despite his inexplicably stupid end). Laurence Fishburne was good in his rather limited role. And Michael Shannon was great.

What Enrique said. Almost exactly.
This poll needs more choices. There's an extreme positive choice a mildly positive choice and an extreme negative choice. I didn't love the film but I didn't hate either. So I guess...like? But that's because I don't think there are enough choices to cover the spectrum of reactions. I thought the film was average/so so. Moments of brilliance countered with moments of piss poor work and decisions.

I just saw it for the second time this afternoon, and its official.....I LOVE it. I highly recommend to any of you out there who may have only seen it once who weren't quite sure, to get a second viewing in. Its absolutely better the second time around.
I absolutely rank it up there with the best of the superhero flicks including STM, S2, and the Nolan Batman flicks. I also rate SR highly, but MOS is better. I don't rate the Marvel flicks very highly, but MOS to me blows them out of the water. Iron Man 3 was terrible. How the heck it got better reviews and is going to outgross MOS is mind boggling to me. DISGUSTING.

I wish Obi Wan and Annakin's fight was as brutal, intense and exciting as Superman and Zod's.

I'll definitely agree with that. It helps distance one from expectations going in, and (hopefully) make one feel a bit more objective the second time around.
The main distraction that I found with the flow of the movie (particularly the second time) were many of the dramatic scenes.
While there was plenty of things to be annoyed about the "Smallville" tv show, the performances had a natural flow. Both Donner and Speilberg had had TONS of television hours under their belt before they went into feature films, and maybe that experience was/is part of what helps many of their films be saved (most of the time) from stilted performances (Or truly bad cutting, RDC aside).

I think there should be a dislike option. While I didn't hate it, I kinda didn't like it.
