It's an absolute joke.  STM is cinema at it's finest. It's beautifully shot, well written and hasn't aged a bit. Not to mention it features one of the most iconic performances by Chris Reeve as Superman. Honestly I will never understand why STM is not taken seriously. |

I never put much stock in these lists. The top film will always be either "The Godfather" or "Citzen Kane." It's like they're afraid to think outside the box.

No way, Godfather really is amazing! Thank god someone's talking some sense. It's easily one of the best films so whether you think it deserves to come first is a moot point. You must be able to recognise it for it's merits. The fact that it's in the running therefore shouldn't come as too much of a shock that it made number one. The biggest shock for me from what I read here is that Superman Returns is in the top 500 at all. Regardless of my feelings about the film I think that there are far too many better made films with a far more interesting story in the world to warrant it's inclusion here. |

I think it's a wonderful and heartfelt Superman film. But I see a LOT of crap in this list. I mean, Pirates 2 and THE PHANTOM MENACE are higher than SR, Crouching Tiger and BEN-HUR!!!!!  No way they are better films. Geez. And I think The Godfather 2 is better than part one. Not that I actually love these films, but I recognize that are very well made. |

I was surprised to see Matrix rate so high. I had thought the sequels had diminished the first films reputation somewhat. |
