Holding out some hope (why not? There's still 3 crazy recuts of Alexander) in the future sometime that Selutron or Thau can recut SII to be more complete (restore those deleted bits!) officially even with all the obstacles against it. Some clips were borrowed, some composited - but low-res, I would rather that it be 'officially' done by Selutron or Thau.

Some great concept here! Any finalized battle would only use a fraction of these ideas... Donner's metro battle isn't supposed to be too long. It's supposed to be short but INTENSE and violent.. so violent that Superman is forced to flee to the fortress to avoid further casualties.

Thanks Crown!  I agree that it is a bit too long, trying to 'recycle' as much 'real' footage from the Lester battle at the FOS (replacing the FOS backgrounds w/Metropolis) and just what 70's footage is/was available- If I try to do a 'temp' revised one to show ideas for Selutron/Thau, I think I'll instead try to go further and try to figure out how to do 'temps' closer to what Mank wrote in the first place for the Metro battle. (i.e. the tower being saved by Supes.... then falling anyways by being ambushed by Non/ Supes being punched unconscious into the Brooklyn Bridge) The main thing that I think we lost by not having Donner direct the Metro battle are all the subtle and varied things I think we would have seen in it that weren't 'on the surface'.... for example, the moon attack, the white house building bit, and the dp attack by the villains don't feel repetitive at all.... and it might have, under the wrong hands. Instant, there are tons of moments and reactions in each one that aren't even on the written page. Ah well... |

Great job. I really enjoyed it. Lots of great ideas in there. Thanks dugpa! A lot of the ideas are all inspired by the work of many other fan cutters out there, though. And, I look at it as just that it's all just out of frustration that the Donner Cut wasn't what it should have been, and that it is almost impossible to fix it without the right footage, but fan compositing hopefully gave the feeling of what it coulda/shoulda/maybe looked like.... |
