The suit is what counts. People don’t come to a Batman film just to see Bruce Wayne in a tux or his casual wear. Problem with what you said is he and the creators still consider him to be “Batman” even without the suit. That’s the official stance. If it was just the suit that counted Nolan’s films wouldn’t have done as well as they did despite the VAST majority of the characters time being spent out of the suit. He made the entire ONE character interesting and people came to see both as well as the films as wholes. Batman Begins was sold mostly on him not being in the suit since it was his origin. How much suited up Batman was in that first trailer again? Exactly.

Let’s see Nolan pull off those percentages when he’s making a film that’s only two hours long.

Let’s see Nolan pull off those percentages when he’s making a film that’s only two hours long. Considering how little Batman is in his movies compared to Wayne already he probably could. TDKR was criticized for how little Batman there was by hardcore fans but he casual audience didn’t give a dammnn. It still made over a billion dollars. People were invested in HIS movies. That’s how you make people care about Wayne with even little Batman and that’s what he did.

Wonder what those percentages are for Superman films? I imagine it skews depending on the length of the film. Superman one is pretty long and we gonna while before we even see Superman. Superman IV meanwhile is pretty short but the film opens with him saving someone. It wouldn’t shock me if Superman has more screen time suited up than Batman’s ever had in his films which is funny considering how much more expensive scenes with Superman are.

It's ironic - but even moreso how few Batman movies actually have Batman doing cool Batman action. Arguably, only Snyder's films have really had Batman kicking arse the way he should have, even though Nolan's Batman films are the best and smartest (outside of TDKR).

I think a few things played into that. For years it was the limitations of the suit and/or the limitations set by the directors styles. Hard to imagine someone like Nolan being interested in that kind of stylized fighting and filming. Same with Burton. Schumacher went for flair but it ended up being a big cartoon. Snyder was the right guy to do it because he’s always more about action and violence and making something look “cool” above everything else.

Some of Nolan's action looked good (better in TDK than Begins) but the practical fight scene that Snyder had Batman do in BvS with the thugs almost made it worth the price of admission. THAT was the way to do it, imo. I hope that any director of Batman moving forward uses that as a model.

I’d like a middle ground. Loved how action packed Snyder’s scenes were but they became unbelievable at times. Physics went right out the window even for a mere human like Batman. I’d like to see Nolan’s realism mixed with Snyder’s flair. Not easy I know but if it can be done it’d look great.

With all the advances in wirework, costuming, etc.--- a feature film Batman movie SHOULD knock it out of the park in term s of action. I get how you feel on movie action going TOO far & feeling ridiculous (I feel a number of wire-fu Hong Kong films fall under that category) ... in any case, I'm hoping that the filmmakers don't go BACKWARDS in terms of movie action....

It might not look like Snyder who seems to value style over substance but I think what we will see will be impressive. There have been too many advancements for it not to be. From stunt teams to cgi.

Bizzarely, most of the Marvel action sequences have felt REALLY generic even if well produced. I remember Joss Whedon mentioning that Feige was against really great 'artsy shots'--- but for my money, the Rousso brothers have delivered the best action sequences & Now and then when they release storyboard animatics for some of the Marvel films, I'm shocked because the animatics most of the time are SO much better choices than what shows up on film, which is mostly forgettable. I wonder if it's Feige's supervision or each director that makes the call? In any case.... crossing fingers that the next phase doesn't disappoint....

It’s a mix of both. I guess Feige has the final say but you can see a combo of his ideas and the directors on the screen. The Films all do have a visual consistency but at the same time the Russo’s do have their own style especially when it comes to action sequences. I think one place marvel really suffered from sameness problems is cinematography.

Superman Classic
Bizarro Classic
I haven’t thought about these in years but happened to stumble onto them on YouTube. Always thought they were great. Loved that he got John Newton to do some voiceover work.

By George Evangelista Wish Welling was in the Smallville season 11 comic book suit and Cavill’s head looks odd on his body but otherwise I like it. Nice to imagine what might have been.

Dark knight trilogy screen tests and make up/costume tests.
Proof that almost anyone of average build and looks can look good in that cowl. Murphy’s a fine actor and Eion Bailey looks great in the suit but he doesn’t have Bales intensity. He and Murphy both look like kids playing dress up as Bruce Wayne.

(Most of) the many versions of General Zod. By ClarkyBoingo I noticed a few aren’t pictured like Kryptons Zod but this is most of his looks through the years. It’s impressive how influential Terrence Stamps Zod still is on the character. The modern idea of Zod is probably based on him and his performance more than anything else. I never cared for many of his comic book designs. I just never felt like they nailed it down perfectly. There are a few I like though.
