www.darkhorizons.com/the-flash-series-loses-two-key-cast/A shame to see em go but it was obvious in his last episode that they were writing Wells out. What else can they do with a new version of him? I’m guessing Cavanagh wants to try some new things. Valdes has had one foot out the door for years. He hasn’t exactly hidden the fact that he’s ready to move on. Plus between Cisco being gone so much and all the new characters they’ve obviously been preparing for his exit. The end of season six and seven also means a lot of contracts were up. Letting the actors move on or letting the network decide not to bring them back if their asking prices are too high. I wasn't originally planning to get all the seasons of Flash, but with WB dvd division disappearing next year, I think I've got to catchup and pickup the whole arrovverse stuff soon... but I got a feeling a LOT of the seasons are pretty repetitive if constantly writing just to keep the same cast members...

The 'sorta crossovers' intrigues me a little. Overall, while I really appreciate the fan serivce of Crisis, I'm still waiting for any Berlianti series to hit me as strong overall as Trek or Buffy or Angel....

Different time. Different circumstances. “Broadcast” Tv as a whole doesn’t seem to be hitting most people the way it used to for a whole lot of reasons. More of the focus and talent is going towards streaming shows because they want the to audience to go with that.

Luke Fox’s new Batwing suit. It’s an idea from the comics. Didn’t think they were going this way with him on the show but it seems like every character on all these shows eventually feels a need to put on a costume.

On one hand, I was annoyed that Smallville was so 'anti-costume' during its run- but on the flip side, the Berlianti shows seem to go overboard on them...

It’s the first live action project by Johns I haven’t been disappointed by- but I have a feeling this is his really his baby unfiltered. Still I wish it were skewed for an ilder audiences

www.darkhorizons.com/batwomans-renee-montoya-looks-familiar/Pretty interesting choice. It’s not often someone is recast as a different version of the same character in a different production but it’s happened. Even in comic book stuff. If they want an in universe explanation they could say it’s a result of the crisis and elements of the Gotham earth were merged with Earth Prime. Or if they don’t want to go that far just say this Montoya is this universes version of Montoya and a doppelgänger from the multiverse.

That's cool--- In previous situations, if someone was perfectly cast already, I feel it's a waste to cast someone else. With Christopher Gerard getting the role for Lois and Clark- then being dismissed because he was already in the syndicated Superboy tv show- it seemed foolish to cast him aside. Similarly of course with Routh for Superman on tv - particularly with Superman and Lois. In any case... I actually have to catch up on all these shows!

In those cases it made sense not to cast them because they didn’t want those new projects to be tied to old productions in audiences minds. The big difference now is we’ve had 20 years worth of superhero movies and tv shows to get people used to more outside the box ideas. More importantly they’ve primed and educated their audiences on the idea of different universes and that there could be different versions of the same characters around at the same time.
If Routh had been cast as the Supergirl version of Superman that would have limited the chances that we would have seen him back as the Superman Returns version of his character with all that backstory from that film in tact. We would have not only missed out on the great return of a particular version of the character but the redemption of that version of the character. If Routh had already been playing a different Superman why bring back his previous version later on?
The way it worked out we got the best of both worlds. We got a new Superman in Tyler Hoechlin and a show thats doing very well with the fanbase AND we’ve got the possibility of seeing Routh as the Superman Returns Superman again. The Flash movie is right around the corner so it’s got a shot at happening very soon.

I’m glad we got a number of scenes with Routh in Crisis but I still feel robbed that there was a chance to have him take over for Hoechlin after the Crisis and have him be the lead for Superman and Lois. oh well

The way it worked out lets him be his Superman and gives us another Superman in Hoechlin. Hoechlin fits what they were doing with the Arrowverse because they and more freedom to craft their own take on the character without any baggage.

I think a lot revolves around my dissatisfaction with Hoechlin being cast. I know he's working for a lot of folks as Superman, but much like Ben Affleck as Batman, I can hang with it and enjoy a story, but it requires imagination.

Hoechlins really made the role his own but even back then you can see why they cast him. That was obvious in his first episode on Supergirl. He got a lot of positive reactions.

I know it's totally subjective and unfair, but- just like when watching Ben Affleck as Batman- I don't feel like I'm seeing the character with the casting. I know it'll go away once the blu ray comes out and I binge the whole first season, but it's difficult right now. On the flip side.... why on earth do the producers need him unshaven? I know it's always been a bit ridiculous in concept for someone to hide just behind glasses and nobody recognizing him, but the unshaven aspect for me pushes my suspense of disbelief even more. But- again, once I binge it'll all probably go away...

Hey you feel how you feel. His success in the role seems to be pretty established though. I think there’s a reason for that. As for shaven or unshaven…why not? I think they’re trying their own look and that’s fine with me. Sometimes Superman has a curl and sometimes not. Sometimes he’s got longer hair other times shorter hair. Whatever. Superman’s appearance has had variations over the years. In the flashbacks he’s usually totally clean shaven but I think they want him to look older and with a more mature look since this is a slightly older Superman who’s been around for a while.

Again, I'm sure I'll adapt to it once I binge it on blu ray when it's available. I know it's COMPLETELY subjective and unfair.... and people will all have their biases. To me, certain actors 'felt' like Superman to me- George Reeves of course because I first saw him in reruns of the tv show, Chris Reeve, Jeff East, Gerard Christopher, Tom Welling, Brandon ROuth, Henry Cavill and Dean Cain even. On the fllp side, John Haymes Newton, Ben Affleck and Tyler Hoechlin don't feel like Superman to me--- but, yeah, not logical- but a gut-thing when it takes effort to go with it.

www.darkhorizons.com/five-part-the-flash-series-event-set/Interesting. It’s not a full on multi show crossover but it’s still a major event. Probably because of covid restrictions and letting things breathe a bit and rebuild post crisis (sort of like the wait to do another big Avengers film after Endgame). So many characters from various shows coming back.

That does sound interesting. Suprised that they asked Routh back after he was fairly candid about how they treated him, but glad if they were able to work it out.

Routh said he was sad about how it turned out but at the same time they always said they’d be willing to have him back and were hoping he would come back. Business is business. No major bridges were burned there and Rouths clearly not the type of guy to hold grudges so bad that he won’t do business if the deal is right. It’s not in his nature. And just like I said THEN he’s back. The Dominic Purcell situation has been far more bitter than Rouths departure.

I remember when it was exciting that there were one or two shows on but after the big screen boom and the rise of more channels and streaming services there are more comic book/superhero shows than anyone could ever watch. They aren’t all good but compared to the past there has been a rise in quality and quantity. It’s an Embarrassment of riches.

You're right.... it's sad that we don't have more comic book films that are home runs from beginning to end, given the amount of tries at the bat. I would have much rather we had one perfect Superman Donner trilogy than any of the films or tv shows that followed that had mixed results. But, similarly, I feel the same about the Star Wars original trilogy- I always felt the third one was a half-disaster. I would have preferred perfection on that and nothing else, as much as I enjoy the Mandelorian and parts of Star Wars things here and there that followed.
