Having issues imbedding this image, so here's the link to my favorite Reeve/Supes' photo: To me, this is one (or should have been) of the most powerful moments in the film. I remember seeing this image in an old movie magazine called Mediascene Preview decades ago when it was previewing what was to come in the first mega-budget Superman movies (at the time). There's something about the look on Reeves face; the image of Superman (with 'S' curl) in plainclothes for the first time in cinema; and not knowing at the time what the context of the scene was, that made this image incredibly compelling to me. When the Lester version came out instead and this scene was said to be filmed, but would NEVER be seen, because of the Brando legal issues (at the time) I think it just added more power to this photo- and the movie in one's head of what Richard Donner filmed (or planned to film) all seemed to resonate whenever I'd see this photo on Bower's Capedwoner site, as well. So... for all those reasons, it's probably my favorite Reeve/Supes photo- to me, it always gets me into a headspace where I can imagine what the Donner Superman II was going to be like. (Something the RDC doesn't quite do, due to the editing, which is why Thau continues to frustrate to this day). ;(

Fixed it for you, CAM.
I believe that was a B&W photo that was colorized. If it was, then it was a good job.

Ooh. I recall somebody saying I should draw Chris...I think this is the one I'd like to do. I'll probably struggle with the blurry foreshortening, but it'll be worth it.

Thanks, Jimbo- again, you are the MAN! And... that could well be so about the colorizing. The version in the magazine I saw years ago was in black and white... though, if Jim Bowers includes this image in his book, hopefully there was/is a 'real' color version as well!

I'm an Equal Opportunity Artist. I feel like it should have a "I WANT YOU..." caption stuck on it, lol.

I gotta say, Reeve looks his best when he's evil. I guess it's all the makeup that brings out definition in his face. Great shading effects on him.

The make-up artist for Reeve was spot-on! I definitely think it was lacking in SR. They kinda went overboard with Routh's make-up as it seemed to hide some of Routh's facial definition. Shame really because Routh has perferct facial definition for Superman.

Well, I thought Routh looked great. The only problem was the unrealistically blue eyes. No one's eyes are blue like that.

Well, I thought Routh looked great. The only problem was the unrealistically blue eyes. No one's eyes are blue like that. Although the funky starburst-like stripe patterning creeped me out in most lighting situations, the fact that he's an alien gives it somewhat of a pass for me. There's something about having otherworldly eyes that's kind of a cool idea to me. But yeah, those contacts were usually just weird. What's even weirder is that there are a few times where they look astonishingly natural. How that happened, I don't know, and I wish they'd looked like that the whole time. Not in the movie, but once in the documentary and a couple of times in promo photos. It would have caused an even bigger uproar considering the bitchitude that the rest of his look set off, but I'd have been okay if they just kept his eyes dark. There's really no convincing way to obscure really deep brown eyes into blue, unless they wanted to rotoscope his eyeballs in every freaking frame. Dean Cain got flak for this, but at least Brandon looks like the epitome of Superman in every other way. Have you guys ever seen better contacts? Do you think they could have pulled this off another way?

I think the contacts themselves were fine, but I think Bryan wanted a more 'alien' look to Superman's eyes and thus applied a filter to ehance the blue. However, as a result this affected all the blue everywhere in the movie.

I thought he made Routh's eyes blue using CG.

I think he did both, if you look at the colour of his eyes and compare it to any other blue object in the move, they are the same colour.

I'd call that overkill to acheive one piddly little effect. It's not the end of the world, but I could definitely have lived without everything looking brown and aqua.
