I don't think it was Sarah. I think it might've been Jack O'Halloran as he was posting on imdb a while back about Superman II. He even provided proof it was him too. But who knows.

now you guys are being mean.. that is just plain rude.
there is an update at the supermanhomepage:
UPDATE: Sarah Douglas, who is a friend of the Superman Homepage, sent the following comments to me via email in response to this article...
Chris and I were just buddies on the set and had no friendship off, but it was more to do with the fact that we were just mates on the set... just never friends in the way I hit it off with other cast members.
I think it is also important to point out that my injuries whilst flying caused me a lot of pain and I was possibly very cranky and not much fun for him to be around!!!
Nothing controversial and certainly no animosity... he is still the very best Superman ever! Jacob

I'm only joking Jacob. It's our mission to suspect people posting alleged stories and defending them. ;D

I have been coming to this forum for a while.. its in differnt carnations of the forum. I know the attitude of many in here. they are very pro chris reeve. Jacob Very odd for a forum dedicated to the Superman movies... Why not go to the He-Man.org forums and point out to the members there that they are very "pro He-Man" while you're at it.

yea Reeve had kids out of wed-lock, was pro-choice, and didn't, at least explicitly, accept Christ as his savior. He was more of a universalist thinking that everyone who lives a good life gets into heaven, (but judging by Ursa's comments about him even that is suspect!!) The sad thing is, a lot of people believe that Chris didn't go to heaven for these reasons. I myself am an inclusivist however, and think that Jesus was working through Reeve during his accident. If God didn't love Chris, how could he have done all the wonderful things that he did on this earth?

I've been waiting a long time to reply to this thread.
I just wanted to say that any reports that Chris Reeve 'beleived his own hype' by other cast members is absolutely fine by me. He was the title character, he had to nail his performance in the film, and it wouldn't be the first time actors have clashed on set. Brando's tantrums are legendary, but his status remains untarnished
In short, I'm not interested what Sarah Douglas has to say, her opinion is an irrelavence to me.
I can't beleive Kidder bashed him though, she seems really complimentary of him in the 01 DVD documentary, there again, she could hardly bash him on those.

I don't think anybody bashed him, just that he took his work so seriously he rubbed a few up on the wrong way. Age 25 with a fucking huge responsibility on his shoulders, I'd like to think I'd be exactly the same in that position. Would Sarah Douglas prefer he put in a 1/2 assed effort?
Donner obviously respected his dedication a lot and his opinions mean more than anyone else connected to the film

Donner tears up everytime he talks of Reeve, so clearly at least the director loved him...and thats the most important thing
How do we know Douglas wasn't up her own arse herself.
O'Halloran's comments have bordered on the nasty over the years

As usual, the truth lies somewhere between "Reeve was a saint" and "Reeve was the devil."
You'd be hard-pressed to find a bigger fan of Reeve than me, when it comes to his portrayal of Superman. He gave us something unforgettable, and touched us in a way that no one has, since.
But Reeve's portrayal of Superman is something quite separate from Reeve the person. I'm the first to admit that when it comes to his views on politics and religion, I guarantee that he and I would've had some very lively debates.
Also, as a 42 year old man, I can recall what kind of guy I was in my 20's, and I know that I was quite opinionated, and not always gracious when it came to those with whom I disagreed. Further, I was rather insular, which I'm sure came across as self-important to those around me. The truth is I was simply an intense person, with a good heart, that not everyone got to see.
Taking into account all the various things that have been said about Reeve over the years, I believe he was similar. As he got older, he learned to add a bit more sweetness to his intensity, while still maintaining his convictions. He simply matured, as we all do.
Whatever the case, nothing can take away what Reeve gave to Superman, and the special place he holds in our hearts for that reason, regardless of whatever shortcomings he may have had as a human being.

Reeve admitted himself that he was "dead serious" when it came playing the role of Superman. I can see why Margot says she found it frustrating, especially with him staying in character during the long hours filming the flying scenes when they would be hanging around for hours on end. I've got no problem with Sarah Douglas saying they didn't socialise off set. Jack going around telling anecdotes of how he roughed Reeve up and saying he deserved to have is accident I take exception to, and are the actions of an utter cunt.

Well said, Veris! Also- and I know it's been said numerous times before- he also demonstrated a special place in history for his personal struggles when he ended up in the wheelchair.... In putting myself in his shoes, it might have been easy enough to just give up and give in, than fighting everyday to overcome his own difficulties to expand the world. Because of his playing Superman--- it just has even more resonance. About Sarah Douglass/Jack O'Halloran: If stories come out about actors finding working with him unpleasant because of his perfectionism at the time- well, if people are asked to tell the truth about what their personal feelings were at the time about another person, then it's a bit much to be mad at the person if they don't tell you exactly what one would want to hear. If, on the other hand, actors come out and bash someone who's long dead--- that just makes themselves look bad. I think there is a difference.

I couldn't care less what he was like to co stars on set. What he did achieve through his part as Superman on and off screen and in later life is something very few people have achieved in terms of personal impact, legacy and inspiration.

Who cares anyway?
When you saw later Reeve interviews when he was gearing up for SIV I actually thought he sounded quite smug. He certainly didn't sound like the shy young man he was in 1978.
Hes not perfect, who cares, he was absolutely excellent at what he did.

I agree- Nobody's perfect.... but any trivia- (even in the form of gossip) positive or negative- that comes from the history of the Reeve films, I think it's safe to say most of us would eat up here, no?
