At first I thought it was going to be Superman-Routh versus Superman-Reeve === that might have been pretty cool!

One thing these deepfakes cannot do yet is replicate mannerisms and body language.
So yes, you can put a face onto someone's body, but there is still something about a Christopher Reeve performance or a Harrison Ford performance or a Sean Connery performance that is more than facial.

Very true! But I figure it's not so different from having a stunt double in terms of 'legitimacy' for telling a story in film (video)...

I agree, you can’t resurrect the dead but it is great to see these as a sort of tribute.

I think what certain people will do when they actually shoot new footage for these things and not reuse old footage is try to more closely mimic the subject of the deepfake. No ones going to be able to get it spot on but there have been a few of Tom Cruise and George Lucas that have been pretty close. Sometimes it bordered on parody but at times those guys have become living parodies.

I'll have to study deepfake at some point- these are really amazing- but I wonder if portions that weren't included in these scenes just did not agree with the software (for whatever reason). In any case- cool but scary as usual!

They probably chose what they thought what were the best most interest scenes to deepfake as well as what would or did yield the best results.

Hmnnn.... I actually would rather someone deepfake Helen Slater onto Melissa Benoist footage, but... I do have to say- I don't remember if this was already posted here, but Henry Cavill as Supergirl I found hilarious... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke8DfmJM7ic
