Seems they we’re going for more dramatic and emotional incidental music that blended into the background instead of something more bold. It’s a trade off.
It’s weird to be in an era where we’ve now had two Supermen where their themes have been replaced. Nothing new with other on screen characters (it was a thing for a long time in the MCU) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it happen with Superman before since those themes were so iconic and connected to the character. Replacing them was unthinkable.

I've watched all 4 episodes, and sadly it's turning crap. First episide was good.
Smallville is much better.

I thought Smallville stunk. Especially the early and later seasons. The waste of time cave junk and Kryptofreak stuff really bogged down those early seasons. A lot of it really hasn’t aged well. I think Superman & Lois handles the high school melodrama better than Smallville ever did as well.

Haven't seen anything past the pilot. Uncertain if I'll buy the final bluray or not right now....

The first season is basically bought for me. Just to get that pilot and see what behind the scenes extras they have. Got most of the other shows so I can’t break up the franchise just yet.

Hoechlin back in the Fleischer shorts inspired suit. He looks great in it. Almost wish they’d stick with this one or something similar.

Doesn't it seem RIGHT to have the red shorts? It's just not Superman without them, imo...

So… that was a heck of an episode the other night. One of the better ones of the season IMO and a clever way to cover more of Superman’s origin and the early days of Clark and Lois’s relationship.

One of my best friends who is NOT overwhelmed by the Superman movies just was RAVING about how good last night's episode was--- to my giant shock. Still waiting for the blu ray to 'binge' it....

One of my best friends who is NOT overwhelmed by the Superman movies just was RAVING about how good last night's episode was--- to my giant shock. Still waiting for the blu ray to 'binge' it.... It was a damn good episode and everything across the season so far came together in a really creative and natural way. All the developments with Morgan Edge made sense. Hoechlin really killed it. He and Tulloch have a nice chemistry. The way this show has handled the idea of an evil Superman makes sense. It’s not something just pulled out of someone’s butt because it’s cool. It’s been a big mystery and cautionary tale that’s had the proper groundwork laid for it. Even the way a certain someone was “ended” I thought was handled much better than the same scenario in MOS. The whole idea of invading Kryptonias has been handled better. Why would they want to give up their powers when they could be gods on earth and create a new Krypton? Even the way it’s being done makes sense.

Is the Superman in this show meant to be MoS Superman?
Lots of echoes of MoS in this. The visuals are similar too, even down to the hear vision.

Nope. Do you see him letting people die while not giving a crap or being a hypocritical @sshole? There’s some visual cues they’ve taken from modern more recent movies but there’s also just as many things inspired by Smallville, Superman Returns and the Reeve movies. Some of the stuff with Lois and Clark in the flashback episode feels right out of…Lois & Clark.
Arrowverse Superman also has an actual fortress of solitude. Young Clark creating it was right out of STM. Snyder would also never put Cavill in that Fleischer style costume. His mom giving it to him also felt very much like a similar scene in the Lois & Clark pilot.

Saw the episode in question... a lot of neat touches, but I think it'll play better when I get used to Hoechlin and Tulloch by seeing the season from episode 1 to now.
I don't think I usually get hung up on small stuff with scifi/fantasy, but I already got into a mini-argument with my friend who loves this episode on what bothered me- so, again, I think it's best I reserve judgement until I see this season as a whole.
But- it was neat to see the original costume in play and I liked a lot of the tiny homages to previous Superman versions.

Jor El is Robert the Bruce from Braveheart I didn’t even know it was him until a few weeks ago. Didn’t recognize him. He looked familiar and I was trying to figure it out so I looked it up on Google. Also found out he played Robert The Bruce again in another project a few years ago. Had no idea.

I really really want to like this show, but... I wish some of the casting didn't bug me SO much. From the pilot and the last episode, there are a lot of great homages, but.... again, I'll reserve judgement until I binge the whole thing on blu ray when it's ready....

One tiny thing: I wonder whose idea it was for Superman/Clark not to shave?
Was this a Tyler Hoechlin demand similar to Tom Welling's refusal to wear the costume?
If so... What happens when Tyler's contract is up for renegotiation? Will Superman/Clark refuse to bath as well? (Just kidding)

Looks like Superman is getting a slightly updated suit as well. Brighter reds and more classic boots (though still not as sleek and streamlined as I’d like). Looks like they’ve also toned down the muscle suit too.

Many rave about this show, but I have to get past my own issues with the casting... and the lack of red shorts isn't a deal-breaker, but not having them isn't helping, to be honest...

Meh. I'm not that thrilled by this show. It had some good ideas ,but very forgettable and generic.

He’s worn the red trunks. Just not on the current costume. The original costume is as classic as you can get. I think Hoechlin has been the best Superman we’ve had in a long time. At this point it’s a horse race between him and Routh for me as far as modern supermen.

Hopefully the actor will be okay on a personal level. On a creative level, maybe purple kryptonite can transform him into another actor?
