Thanks for putting these up Dugpa! As always- BOTH very cool and very scary (for the real world implications!)!

Amazing what can be done with today’s technology at a consumer level versus an VFX shop. Makes me think the Donner Cut could have been much different if taken on today.

It could STILL be amazing! But.... with dvds on the way out and lowered $$$ from it- I wonder if we should conider ourselves even luckier to have gotten the RDC. Also, even if done now versus then, with Deepfake tech- I think the legal issues still haven't really been addressed & the amount of money WB invested then for the recut was pretty limited (Unless they would see the benefit of it attracting more subscribers to HBO max like the Snyder cut) --- hence, with that limited budget- my frustration as to why Thau spent extra man-hours of a limited budget to re-do or re-score some of the scenes that were already cut well by Baird in the theatrical and extended tv cuts & re-doing score that was fine (and paid for already!)...

Low hanging fruit would be to deepfake the body doubles they added to the RDC. Additional footage would be difficult but now a modest budget could go a long way.
Agree that they would have legal issues but even the Brando scenes that were highly inconsistent could be redone and have the audio synced up. It is just exciting thinking that in a few more years, it will be as easy as downloading an app.

But- regardless of how many cool 'new' fan generated scenes might be in the future, it wouldn't be as good as having access to the 'real' scenes shot/edited by Donner/Baird that ended up in the extended tv cut...

I saw that--- still makes me wonder if a zillionaire one day could buy up the rights to SII and fix it up to finish up SII by using this tech... and then give it to us.

The great thing is it wouldn’t require a zillionaire. Or even a millionaire given the tech. Given the advances in SFX, consumer video cameras, etc it could be done by a fan or group of fans. Ideally it is WB but who are we kidding. They seem to have no interest in this.

You might not even need a rich fan. It looks like the studios might be starting to use deepfake tech or at least something similar. I’m wondering if a certain cameo in The Mandalorian was achieved using the process and I could swear it looked like it was used in the Snyder Cut of JL. Even if it becomes illegal for fans to use this stuff to do things with films and celeb likenesses I could see the studios developing their own version.
