Tony Danza as Superman?

According to the linked video below, Reeve apparently wasn’t going to return as Superman in Superman III with John Travolta, Jeff Bridges, Kurt Russell in consideration. Apparently, Tony Danza was chosen and then Reeve was begged to come back with a stipulation that the script be changed.

I’ve NEVER heard about this until now. I know Reeve was signed on to do a third film and spoke enthusiastically about returning at the second film’s premiere. I know he wasn’t happy with what had been conceived with Pryor and he apparently was out of the running until something got worked out.

Has anyone else been privy to this information? Travolta would have been fun to have seen in the role. Cavill bares a strong resemblance to him. Bridges would have been good, but I always wished he could have been in a Captain America film of that era.

This is old “news” that’s been floating around the internet for a long time. It’s not well known but it’s been out there. I’m guessing the Weekly Planet guys found it either on Wikipedia or a quick google search as they prepped for their Superman 3 discussion.

I don’t think anyone has actually asked Danza about it on camera. That’s what I’d like to see happen.

Seeing MANY of the screen tests for Superman (and Lois) would be awesome!
