Nice find, CAM. I can’t wait for watch/listen to this. Rosenbaum's really been making a name for himself as a podcaster and interviewer. He has great guests with great stories.

The bits that Annette O'Toole shared in this episode I had mostly NEVER heard before on the behind the scenes on SIII- but there's also the bits where you hear some of the unreasonable behavior by the producers of Smallville later in the run on scheduling. Definitely a treat for Superman fans who are curious about the behind the scenes on both.

How she actually got the job was new to me though. The talk about her time on Smallville during 9/11 and at the end was very eye opening. Unfortunately I think a lot of actors go through that and you can tell it really sours them on the show. I got a little bit of that from some of the supergirl cast members. The hours are so long and at a certain point these people are ready for it to be over. All the little personal stories of all the people she’s met or worked with were very entertaining too. The John Heard discussion was very revealing and pretty sad. It explains why he was so good on The Sopranos. It was a little bit of art imitating life with his character on that show. I didn’t even know Annette was on the show Kidding. I’m also very curious about who the director was who made a pass at her. She said he’d recently died so that narrows it down a little.

I'm glad that for her career, she had mentioned aside from that director- having a pretty safe time in the movies/tv- though, yeah, the scheduling stuff and bit of insensitivity with the Smallville tv show made perfect sense why she'd want to quit. Also, the low percent of really good episodes on that series to mediocre ones doesn't help.

Tv work can be really difficult because of the hours and scheduling. OToole just confirmed it even more. I felt really bad for her after her problems with the producers during the 9/11 attacks. You can tell that by the end most people are glad it’s over not because the show wasn’t good but the work is long and tedious and sometimes grueling.

I think because I know enough actor friends who never 'made it', that it's hard sometimes to imagine unhappiness on the other side- but hearing this and hearing the first interview with Stephen Amiell also echoed exactly how and why a person could be a tv star, but not be rich from it- and the real human cost of it when looked up close.
