I had a wine cooler on New Year's Eve, and I've been questioning my sexuality ever since.
Also, while I was searching for Star Trek pictures on Google earlier, I saw a picture of shirtless Sulu from "The Naked Time." I came dangerously close to clicking on it. I dodged a bullet there!
So, yeah. I'll avoid Superman Returns. I don't want to tip myself over the edge.

I always assumed that Clark was being really sweet here by saying that he sees his mother's gray hair as a pretty silver.
Or was this just a throw away line and Clark was genuinely trying to correct Lois as to his mother's hair color?

Lois thought he was really sending half of his paycheck to a bookie. When he said "silver hair," she saw that he was being completely honest. After all, he never lies!

I know, but maybe Clark was also sticking up for his mom by saying her hair isn't gray but silver? Is is even possible to have silver hair?

I consider it a character moment. It shows how truly mild-mannered Clark is.

yep - both of you have it right. he is sweet on his mom , AND he is clarifying that he does NOT have a bookie, but he corrects lois mildly.

It always looked like Superman himself had a bit of silver on the sides of his head in Superman III, after all he went through in Superman II, who could blame him?

I was just never really at peace with the notion of Superman's 'regular' crystals turing into land masses when they were submerged in water.
Inside the crystals was stored the knowledge from dozens of other worlds... but if they fell into water they would turn into a mountain? Would it's data be inside the mountain then or would the data be lost forever?
It just didn't make sense to me. Perhaps the filmmakers could have distinguished between Kal-El's data crystals and other distinct "growing crystals." Maybe these "growing crystals"could have been created by Lex by ripping down pieces of the fortress itself and manipulating it's molecular properties in a lab.
Or even better, Lex could have found the "de-powered" green crystal and found a way to activate it again to do god's knows what!
Just my two cents

I had been keeping an eye on this thread just for the sake of it without really reading much of the outrageousness within, but I am in total agreement with Adam's last point. The green crystal was the only crystal capable of creating anything in STM, and only the Fortress of Solitude at that. Furthermore, it seemed to be a one-time thing. It established the Fortress and downloaded its knowledge into various other crystals, and that was it. Its only further use was communication with Jor-El (or the sentient A.I. of Jor-El). So even slicing off a piece of it t create a landmass wouldn't make sense, much less a piece of a random other crystal. I think this was a case of the writers trying to be too clever and tie everything back to STM. And this is only one of the many reasons why Luthor's plan in SR is the film's weakest link. There maybe be hope for you yet, Adam15.

Adam, if you delete the really lewd stuff you put in this thread, & promise to behave, I'll put it back in the Superman forum. Just replace the posts that you want gone with the word "Delete" & I'll delete those posts.
If you'd rather leave the lewd stuff intact, then it can stay here in the Diner.
Either way you want.
Your choice.

I do enjoy the ability to create an inane thread or a drunk post every once in a while though. Not everything need be compartmentalized. I think we need to strive for balance... for the most part this board is organized, clean, thoughtful and otherwise fairly mature. However there is also no harm in surprising people every now and again and to have fun. I think proper balance will be achieved when these kinds of posts are met with amusement and delight instead of the groans of tired listeners. The personal entertainment one derives from his actions must never so grossly supersede that of the audiences. I'll accept your offer Maverick.

This is a very valid point. The way it looks in STM, you'd think that the green crystal was the only one with the power to build the fortress, with all the clear ones that came from it being just data crystals or something. The Fortress kinda has an open top as well. Whenever summer hit the arctic, and you had all that moisture in the air, wouldn't those crystals expand? SR's still awesome, but good point.

Here's an off the cuff idea about how a true sequel of Superman II should have been set up using the main ideas of Superman Returns. Lex does hard time in prison but gets off with a lighter sentence by giving the police critical information to use against Zod and Co during their interrogation and trial. Lex actually get's out of prison in only 5 years... his recent exploits have earned him great fear and respect in the underworld and he is slowly becoming the powerful corporate untouchable Lex. Lex uses his money to organize an expedition to go back to the site where the fortress once stood... he knows that Superman's secret must still lie there somewhere. The site is nothing but a barren snowfield now riddled with a few ice bergs and crevasses. However, his instruments pick up... something... the faint impulses of an alien object. They dig through ice for weeks until they find it.... a black/green crystal... dead. Lex is able to fund a Lex Corp project that will create a machine made from a mix of cutting edge technology, kryptonite shards and harnessed red sunlight to create a machine that can create mimicked kryptonian energy. He uses this machine to "re-boot" the green crystal with it's original software intact. Then, Lex goes to Antarctica and uses the crystal to create his OWN fortress of solitude which is similar yet oddly different than the original one. Jor-El also appears, not as a floating head but a face behind glass. And this Jor-El believes that Lex is his son and tells him EVERYTHING. Lex's line "See anything FAMILIAR!!!!!!!! ?" would be so awesome when Superman finds the new fortress in which Lex has the power. I definitely think an idea like this would have been better than the one used in SR. Any thoughts?

Well... I suppose there exists a chaos forum for a reason. In the future perhaps my bombastic hyperbole can go there. Sensible enough You can make drunk posts, but not start multiple drunk threads. In fact there exists a thread in the Diner just for drunken rants. Problem solved. Eveything being compartmentalized makes the board easy to navigate for new folks & veterans alike. I don't mind lots of threads. In fact, I love it. I just don't want multiple threads on the same topic. It makes it hard to carry on a conversation when you have to spread it throughout different threads about the same subject. We're already there. We achieved that the day the board opened. Thank you. We strive to keep it that way. But hey, no one loves to be immature with silly stuff more than I (see Chaos). But not at the expense cluttering the board. Agreed, but it wont be done on this board with multiple threads on the same topic. Trust me. I knew what your deal was from day one. I knew you weren't the idiot that you came off as. I knew you were an otherwise smart guy, just trying to get a reaction from people, & I let it ride until you started making too many threads & until members complained to me that you were making too many homophobic remarks & getting too vulgar for the Superman section. Its simple, keep it clean in the Superman forum. Drunk ramblings can go in the drunk thread. Random shit in chaos. You already have a humorous random observation thread for each of the Superman movies. Use those when applicable, instead of making new threads for the same stuff. Good. Trust me dude, I get you. No one like to be silly as fuck more than me. But, I had to learn over time that it shouldn't hamper the ability of others to enjoy the board. Have a good time.

I do actually like the design of Superman's costume in SR. I like that it is tighter and more streamlined and that the cape is a bit longer than Reeves' was. However, I don't like that they took the yellow S off the cape and I think the S on the belt looks redundant since there is already an S on the front.
Of course, I do believe that they got the color of the costume all wrong as well. Maybe part of the reason I feel that way was that I had seen Superman III and immediately saw 'evil Supes' when I first saw Routh's duds.
Well anyway my point is that I would have absolutely no complaints if in the next movie they change the colors back to red and yellow, take the s off the belt and put one on the cape. Also, what would be the harm in giving Superman black hair?

As for mine, the only thing I wish for is a brighter red. I LOVE everything else about his costume.

I bet if u watch SR in HD you can see every one of those tiny S's on the shield. I knew they did that for a reason!

You sure can. When there's a closeup of his shield (when he lands on the new continent), you can see them all.

Any SR fans happy with the little S's? What would have been wrong with a diamond pattern or some other texture?
The little S's make it look like it was made by a toy company IMHO.
I remember whan I had a Ninja Turtles costume when I was little and the sword it came with had 'TMNT' engraved in the blade. Kinda the same thing... eh?
I mean it's just as bad as Gus Gorman humming the Superman theme in SIII. The shield should exist as an absolute; to litter it with tiny S's reminds you that it is a commercialized logo that exists in the "real world" kinda like an aesthetic 4th wall breaker.
