I remember back in the day a lot of Superman toy commercials had a cartoon Superman ripping open his shirt while saying "Don't mess with the S!" I think that in the new Superman movie he should say this line... and it should be his catchphrase before he pounds a supervillain into oblivion!! The line is totally badass and works much better than the corny stuff like "uhh... statistically speaking blah blah blah..."
WB if you are listening please have Superman say this line in the Superman reboot!! This is what the fans want!

You guys this line is awesome! What's wrong with it? Imagine how cool Superman II would have been if 'Instead of Care to Step Outsde?' we had Superman BURST into the Daily Planet screaming "DON'T MESS WITH THE S!!!" and smashed into Zod!! Then when he picked up Zod in the fortress he could have said 'don't mess with the S' and tossed him into the wall!
In SIV when Nuclear Man charges at him on the balcony SUperman coulda said "Don't mess with the S!" Seriously every good superhero needs a catchphrase and I think this would work for Superman! I mean, Batman's catch phrase was "I'm Batman" so Superman needs "Don't Mess with the S!"
With a title like Superman Unleashed I'm sure they'll use a line like this! Please WB THIS IS WHAT WE WANT!

Nah, it would be the worst Superman related thing EVER. Worse than even the worst parts of Smallville.
I'd watch every Kristen Kruek scene on a loop for the rest of my life before I wanted a horrible line like that anywhere near a Superman movie.

Well, what should Superman's catchphrase be then? I can't think of anything better than "Don't Mess with the S!" Even SR woulda been cool if Superman had boldly said "Don't Mess with the S!" right before he took his beating by Lex and his thugs! Then when Lois pulls the chunk of kryptonite out of Supes she could have sobbed "no one messes with the S.." Then when Superman recharges above the clouds he could have heard Jor-Els voice says "My son.. no one messes with the S!"

Superman is the type of character that doesn't need/require a catchphrase. He has his powers and and the ability to do some pretty awe inspiring stuff on screen.. he don't need a catchphrase. It would just come across as cringe worthy.
"Don't mess with the S" sounds like something a 12 yr old would say having a Superman/Spiderman debate with his friend.

I dunno I think Reeve coulda pulled off the line pretty well. Imagine his pre credits flyby with him smiling at the audience whilst says "Don't mess with the S!" It woulda got a big cheer! Also he really shoulda said that line when he threw the celaphane S at Non...!!! He coulda said it in SIII when he destroys his evil self and opens his shirt!!
Every superhero NEEDS a catchphrase... Wolverine has "let's go bub!" Spiderman has "my Spider sense is tingling!" Superman needs a good catchphrase if his next movie is gonna be good. "Don't mess with the S" works on so many levels because Superman wears an S and it stands for Superman and it's also his family crest. We all agree that Superman needs to have angst... angst.... angst... ANGST ..... and lots more angst for his next film! So his S is like his bling so he tells people not to mess with it before he kicks their asses. I'm pretty sure this is all sound.

In comics, some catchphrases might work... but in movies for the most part.. they do not.

Catch phrases work for DC heros because they are god like mythical creatures. They are supposed to be larger than life and have unique catch phrases. Batman's "I'm Batman" catch phrase worked in Batman!!! Why wouldn't it work in Superman! Tell me you could easily imagine a multitude of ways Reeve coulda delivered the "Don't mess with the S! line!

I don't really consider "I'm Batman" a catchphrase. A catch phrase is more like... "I am the terror that flaps in the night, ect" that would be a catchphrase.

Really? I've only seen it once.. I have it on DVD but still haven't watched it. Another thing that is wrong with Spidey 3. Man that movie could have been something good.

Adam doesn't even believe this stupid stuff, Keith. he's just posting this stuff for shits and giggles. But just to play along here and give the baby his bottle: batman and Superman never HAD constant catch phrases.
i take that back..Superman had ONE for sure. maybe two. it was really just Clark's more than Superman's. Why give him a catchprase if he already HAS one? As far as i know Reeve NEVER used it though. Cain May have. Routh didn't.
comics aren't sitcoms. This ain't Flo or JJ Walker, or Arnold Jackson. Not everybody HAS to have one. if anything more of the Marvel guys were known for signature lines or catch phrases in the books.
Point to me 10 DC comics heroes catch phrases. And i mean COSTUMES heroes. Superman had a few but none of them were as silly as what you want. Perry and Jimmy had some.
Find me every catch phrase for the Greek and Roman pantheons then. What was Zeus's funny line he used in every story?

Okay why SHOULDN'T Superman have a catchphrase? Catchphrases are cool... oh wasn't Superman's catchphrase "Truth justice and the American Way"? I think a tasteful update for this catchphrase would be "Don't Mess With The S!!!" Don't dis the line you KNOW it's cool cause it rhymes!!! Come'on admit that you know this is an awesome line!

Well your catchphrase about Superman announcing to the world that he has to take a gigantic dump is okay.... I guess Clark DID announce as much in the diner in SII so it's a valid catchphrase. But.. "Don't mess with the S" is better because Superman doesn't have to wait until he has to go to the bathroom to say it!
I mean what if Superman sees a burgeler and wants to stop him but has already gone to take a dump? HE WON'T BE ABLE TO USE HIS CATCHPHRASE... he would have to go all day holding his junk inside waiting until to opportune time to "utilize" his catchphrase!
