It grew on me, I hated it at first, but it really works well with Brandon's frame. The Blu-ray version of SR is a must! You're able to see the costume as it was meant to be seen. The crimson red is just beautiful. great post

Also the reason why the suit doesn't look so good when watching it on blu-ray on some HDTVs is because it really depends on the quality of the screen. If the screen is a cheap HDTV then no doubt the colours, the detail, everything will not be seen accurately especially when you also consider the lame default settings manufacturers put on their displays - I mean dynamic contrast etc, ugh. I certainly noticed when I went from my Samsung 32" 720p to a Sony 40" 1080p screen the difference and when configured right, an even bigger difference!

Or we could all accept that they're just movies and get on with our lives. ;D *runs* ;D good point. i was aying this a LOT when jonpeters was running it into the ground for 15 years!! its a funny thing- i know i'll never love a superman movie like STM , and nothing will take it away- but i care about the character so much it P*SSES me OFF royally (!) when they do stupid things and then blame the failure on the character !

for corporate Lex? Webster was meant as a replacement for Lex since Gene Hackman refused to return due to his conflict with the Salkinds. Webster is the head of a large corporation which is named after him, appears as a philanthropist to the public, but behind the scenes is a master criminal who uses others to do his dirty work.

Quite possible. I wasn't that big of a comic book fan back when I was a kid.

Lex was much more of a world dominating mad scientist at the time. In a way, it was actually Hackman's Lex who started the shift to businessman. It's kindof funny, because he's always branded as the pre-crisis Lex and considered inferior to the likes of John Shea and Michael Rosenbaum because of this.

The businessman Lex Luthor owes his origins to greedy 80's big businessmen, people like the ones portrayed in Wall Street, and other comic book characters like The Kingpin and Norman Osborn. John Byrnes said as much.
Webster was probably influenced by some of the same ideas so there may be an indirect connection.
both this version and the President Lex have some inherent flaws to them though. Whatever writer it was that said they'd make President Luthor a regular villain needs his head examined. They tried it in the comics and it was very limiting in a lot of ways.

Well I think it's possible that Byrne just doesn't want to admit Superman III gave him any ideas. Who would? His portrayal of Krypton and possibly the lack of Superboy were apparently inspired by Superman: The Movie afterall.

Corporate Lex was created by Marv Wolfman, not John Byrne. And I assure you...Marv Wolfman took NO "inspiration" from Superman 3. Wolfman was very much "doing a Kingpin" with Lex.

I dunno, I still find it to be a funny coincidence that only a few years before the Man of Steel reboot, we had what was basically a corporate Lex.

I get where you're coming from, but I just don't see Marv Wolfman, who at the time was THE hottest writer in comics, suffering through Superman 3 and walking out of it going, "Y'know what really worked here...?"

Ack, your right i should have had that more clear. Wolfman actually created the idea of the new Lex that Byrne used in his run.
Wolfman was doing serious stuff on Teen Titans and other books back then so I doubt he'd look to Superman III for inspiration. Now if the movies had used one of his ideas he'd be all over it pimping himself.
I've noticed he's always been a shill for shows movies using his ideas...just because he gets some credit. I mean he wouldn't stop kissing the Teen Titans cartoons ass even when it sucked just because they used a lot of his ideas. On the flip side he wasn't happy when he DIDN'T get credit on Blade at first.
Like I said earlier about Lex I'm tired of the businessman cause ALL he is is a warmed over Kingpin....and Kingpin was far more interesting back then in DD.

"I asked you to kill Superman... and you're telling me you couldn't do that ONE SIMPLE THING." *Drops phone on the floor*
I could have seen Corporate Luthor do that.

Marv Wolfman had wanted to change Lex Luthor into business man in the early 80s before Superman III was even made. But DC did not allow him to at the time. It was not until after the Crisis on Infinite Earths that DC was open to big changes. Wolfman shared his idea with Byrne.
Even then Wolfman's idea is not exactly what we got. Wolfman wanted Lex to live in a Mansion outside of Metropolis. Which he finally did in the Ruby Spears cartoon which he produced.
Wolfman's original motivation for giving Lex money was to explain how he was able to finance his crimes. With all the weapons and secret hideouts.
I have never agreed with the notion that corporate Lex a Kingpin ripoff. Wilson Fisk is closer to a Mob leader. His "legitimate businesses" are just a front. While Luthor's are not.

But the general idea is the same...ever the look...Kingpins just bigger. And that still doesn't count for other characters who had the businessman day job like The Osborns.

This is a response to the post about "Why the World Needs Brandon Routh as Superman." I don't think he should be Superman because of his name.... I mean BRANDON? Come'on gimmie a break, that's right outta 90210... you can't take someone named Brandon seriously. Christopher Reeve was the perfect name for someone to be Superman!!! Notice the similarities between "Chris" and "Christ" it's pretty obvious why Donner and the gang chose him. Even George Reeves was a great Superman because George is a classic all around AMERICAN name....except for that one King.... who we in the States biatch slapped!!!..... Now I know Keanu Reeves maybe wouldn't have been right for Superman cause that name is fuckin off the hook!! However, at least his last name woulda been consistent with the Supermen that had come before him! But oh yeah BRANDON ROUTH??? Couldn't ever been seriously considered a great Superman just because of his name!! How old is Nic Cage's son now? HE is my one and only choice to play Superman!!

I mean I certainly authored them all so they obviously would share identical sentiments derived from an my own academic anaysis of the material. If my dramatic criticism on the written page is a touch crude for sensitive ears.. well then it may very well be an unintended but otherwise reassuring result of a free and open forum. A forum wherin everyone's right to self expression and subjective comments based on their objective analyses shall not be infringed. Your faux attempts at sophistication are canceled out by just about every thread you've made. I've even read the ones you posted, which you quickly deleted. Perhaps you thought you were going too far. (Yes, you were.) It's not dramatic criticism. It's your attempt at being shocking, and we're tired of it. Also, it has nothing to do with Superman Returns. We'll knock down your Superman IV "observation" threads too if they keep up.

No, because they are all about you hating Superman Returns. We get it. That only requires a single thread. Its the same as me locking the recent Pro-Routh thread, because there was already a thread that it could have gone in. Multiple threads on a single topic is not only cluttery & useless, but it also makes it hard to carry on a conversation with folks on that topic because they don't know which to respond in or cant remember which thread they were discussing it in. It also makes it hard for new guests to find what they are looking for. SO, if you really want people to read what you are saying as a whole about your hatred for Brandon Routh, you would better serve yourself & others, by keeping it confined to this single definitive thread. Always feel free to hate Superman Returns & any other movie or subject that you wish. Freedom is Paramount. Just do it in one Hate Thread per subject You have all the freedom you want to voice your hatred for SR, but not to clutter the board. Carry on.

No, trust me Kev. We all know Trust me. I get that hes attempting to wind up certain members. But that part I'm not concerned about, because, I can see the humor in it myself. I'm only concerned that its done in too many threads on a single topic. But yeah, we all get the intent. Fail
