I have discovered a problem!
Those watching a PAL version will be finished 5 mins before everyone else.

Oh yeah, that's right! OK, for our PAL pals, every 10 minutes, pause for twenty seconds. ;D

Oh bugger, that's true about the PAL thingy. I need to obtain a ntsc version from somewhere quick I think I know where. Edit: Quick question, is the HD-DVD version of superman the movie ntsc by default? because I thought all were HD-DVD's universal. The time on the back of the case says 151 mins.

So... I am alone, searching in dire need of an ntsc version of superman the movie. Nobody is online, all the usenet groups I have searched only have crappy xvid pal versions. All the torrents are either slow or unresponsive. I am dooomed! DOOMED I tell you! Doomed!!!!

Okay, so I am TOTALLY! confuzzled! The running time is 151 mins for the blu-ray and hd-dvd version (both US and european), but the running time for the NTSC regular 2001 DVD is 154 mins and 146 for the pal version ? According to amazon.com and .co.uk. Jeepers, which one is the correct time!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Or maybe, the high-def ones are the 2006 versions. But if so, what is different scene wise that changes the running time between the 2 versions?

Which one? I think there are two versions, one is 2006 and one is 2001.

I wouldn't doubt that it's a runtime error. Amazon is notorious for that. 2006 and 2001 versions are virtually the same. If you can't get a hold of a NTSC version, maybe you could rip your PAL version and convert it to NTSC. I don't know what the task entails, but it's one idea that comes to mind.
Another idea is for someone to rip their NTSC version and upload it somewhere. Of course, they have 48 hours to pull that off.

I've been doing exactly what you've just suggested. The PAL to NTSC conversion is almost impossible though, according to many videophiles. I've been posting requests on many usenet groups for people to upload the NTSC version of superman the movie, because all they have is superman returns and well more superman returns.
Doesn't look good so far.
Hmm, maybe in Sony Vegas I can import the .vob files and then render them to NTSC format that way. Not sure if it will be true NTSC format though. Worth a try I guess. What is the true running time of the NTSC 2001 disc?

I don't have 2001 disc on me. Only have the UE set disc, but I'll check that for good measure.

Do you think ADM will mind me altering his cut I downloaded for my viewing pleasures? I don't think Warners mind when ADM asked them. ;D But yeah, his should be NTSC and by the way, the movie clocks at exactly 2 hours, 31 minutes, and 12/13 seconds.

Guys I need some help! I am having to restore ADM's edit to the 2001 version by cutting out the two added scenes he inserted. However because his version has 1978 audio and the 2001 5.1 audio, I'm at a loss for which audio to pick as I can only pick one in the software I'm using. The 1978 audio is classic sure enough, and comes into its own in the helecopter sequence, but I'm not sure about the rest. I've got soo used to the 5.1 mix at the start with the titles I now prefer that to the whooshes, but I am still unsure. Please help me make this decision. ;D

Well, if you have some audio editing software, how about keeping the 5.1 mix for the opening credits, then going straight to the 1978 mix for the rest of the film.

I voted for 6 p.m. Eastern on Sunday, but I'm not sure I will be able to attend ANY of those times. If it's 7, the odds are about even I'd make it or not make it.
I'm gonna do my damndest, though. This sounds like too much fun to miss.

Does anyone know how to make an mpeg2 file with 2 optional audio tracks? I am trying to make an mpeg2 file with the option of selecting either 5.1 audio or 1978. Sony vegas will only render 1.

God, I'm such a noob when it comes to stuff like this.
I am experienced when it comes to certain audio editing software. But that's not going to help here.
I think CAM, Jimbo or MAV maybe able to help you with this.
