As some of you know, I work as an Art Director/Graphic Designer... my biggest influences are Saul Bass, Russian constructivist propaganda posters, and of course comics. I stumbled across the work of an artist recently named Tom Whelan, that takes classic movies and makes posters for them in this style. I figured I'd try making my own for S:TM. I don't think I'm 100% happy with the lettering yet, but overall, I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. Whaddya think?

Oooh, very nice. Reminds me slightly of the Rocketeer poster at first.
What would you call that style?

Mostly Russian Propaganda posters from the first and second world war. But, the contrasty, 3 or 4 color style, as well as the sharp angles, has a lot to do with Saul Bass, whose most famous posters include Vertigo and The Man with the Golden Arm. Google both the Russian stuff and Saul Bass to see what I mean.

So, it's a poster...in the style of the Saul Bass.
Different approach, very unique.

I love Saul Bass's work. Especially his main credits sequences on movies like It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and Around the World in Eighty Days.
Ah yes, The Man with the Golden Arm. The poster is more famous than the movie itself. ;D

So, it's a poster...in the style of the Saul Bass. Yes, but there's a lot of propaganda poster in there, too... especially the upward-looking, square-jawed man in profile.

I've become fond of Saul Bass's work over the last year. JL The New Frontier has some HEAVY influence from his style. Nice job, UF.

I think it is fabulously original and inventive. The image of a whimsical Reeve rather than fists punching towards the viewer is inspired also...

It's pretty cool! It reminds me to the STAS Superman. Yeah! When drawing Supes, I just can't get the image of STAS Supes out of my head. Like Reeve, it's pretty much a perfect representation of the character. So, it's kind of a combination of the two.
