Superman saved a schoolbus full of kids in California... this tells us it is likely either early morning when kids are being picked up or mid-afternoon when school lets out on the West Coast.
Superman receives the sonic greeting while at work, and then later flies out of Luthor's dungeon against what looks like a sunset sky, so it appears that he got to work pretty late that day (this would help explain why he didn't know about Lois booking a flight and the chief waiting for him to show up). Given that timing, let's say several hours pass between the time he shows up for work and the time Miss T saves him... let's say he is saved by her at 6pm...now tack on the 3 hour time zone difference between the 2 coasts... and voila... the school bus is on the Golden Gate bridge around 3pm taking kids home.
And the point of this?
I have no idea, other than why was Clark so late to work that day?

What baffles me more is Lois driving around in California while on assignment with Jimmy, only to have Mr. Olsen hanging around Hoover Dam.

Wasn't Otisberg about 15 miles away from Hoover Dam?
Problem solved.

You wanna talk about timing?
How the heck did Lex get to Addis Ababa so fast, get the kryptonite, bring it back, and have it fashioned into a large necklace?
He only had a day to do it. It would take that much and more just to travel and get it. If he hired someone, then they would still have to fly to Metropolis to get it to him. Plus "middle of the night" in Addis Ababa would already be early evening in Metropolis of the same day.
Perhaps Lex had transporter technology.

It's a special time zone: Contrivance Standard Time.
