Heh...the one where you cryptically mention this "Masters Collection".

I'm so ridiculously busy right now that I won't even get a minute to watch this until around Thanksgiving...or later!
Can't wait, though. I've waited so long for these. Now, if only they'd give us Superboy Seasons 2-4.

Bought it yesterday at Best Buy. It was $25, just $2 below retail price. Best Buy doesn't do first week deals on obscure titles but I didn't want to wait for online ordering either. Having only seen these episodes in bootleg form, I was instantly impressed by the clarity of the video and sound. True, there was no remastering but I thought the material held up pretty well. Some of the skin tones leaned toward a Simpsons yellow at times but dust and debris were very minimal. The episodes are a lot of fun and at times cheesy. Plenty of action though and the animation is very fluid. The Family Album segments are very reminiscent of the Normal Rockwell inspired Richard Donner Smallville scenes from STM. They really paint an idealized image of middle America and little Clark's superpowered antics.
The 13 minute Corruption of the Corrupt featurette was a pretty generic extra slapped together rather quickly as a token bonus feature. No real insights into the series, just a synopsis of greed in the 80s and how it shaped Luthor's revamped image. Couldn't they have atleast interviewed Marv Wolfman for his take on this? Also, even though this was shot in widescreen, it is presented in a non-anamorphic format on the DVD, so the black bars surround all 4 sides of the image. This means having to use the zoom feature if you want it to fill up the screen on widescreen TVs, which only degrades the picture quality even more. WTF WB? Overall, this is a must buy for all Superman fans, but especially the Superman movie fans because the episodes do have a feeling of carrying on the legacy of the franchise.

Saw the first disc. Positives: Neat to hear (sortof) the John Williams' Superman theme for the show, was neat to see animation that looks VERY influenced by the Donner films--- on top of that, to have legendary comic book artist Gil Kane as the art director, and comic book guru Marv Wolfman as story editor. Negatives: Uh.. only saw the first disc, but from what I saw.... kinda... flat. I admire the amount of work done on it, but the action doesn't have the 'OOMPH' of the Fleischer series, and the stories are 'eh'- even coming from comic book guys. Better than the Superfriends' stuff- but.... for my money, the Bruce Timms' Animated Superman series and JLA/JLU stuff is far more interesting to watch/rewatch. I respect the Ruby Spears Superman probably more than I actually am enjoying them, sadly.
