doesnt count for the purpose of the survey , but last night i watched the " you will believe " documentary. its pretty fun to watch, but as a fan of superman cinema for so many years i wasnt surprised to not learn anything new- but the vintage footage is sweet.

STM: THE KCOP VERSION
Woke up this morning with the flu. High fever. Shakes. Body aches. Called in sick to work. Blew up the inflatable bed we usually keep for houseguests, put it in front of the tv (my couch sucks), got under a blanket, and went through three hours of STM!
Who provided this for me? MAV, several years ago, during one of my board hiatuses. I was looking for quantity, not quality today, and KCOP fit the bill. I needed that extra almost hour of "comfort food".
If I'm still sick tomorrow, I'm gonna do the RIC!

So...another sick day, therefore...
Superman II: RESTORED INTERNATIONAL CUT
Jesus...Superman 2 is an infuriating movie. Even a "pure" Donner version would still be frustrating. NONE of the versions of this movie that I've seen have that intangible element that's in Superman: The Movie.

After reading that list of 20 underrated movies, I was inspired to pop in Superman III.

Tonight I watched Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut with the Donner/Mankiewicz commentary. They're a fun pair to listen to.

They're a fun pair to listen to. i agree , a really wish they were my sweet old uncle or something!! when you listen to the commentaries , there is a lot of overlap - when they did STM in 2001 , they had no idea they'd get to do one in 2006 for SII , so they say a lot of the same things. if you listen to the donner commentary on lethal 4 he talks a LOT about superman and omen.

SUPERMAN RETURNS ( theatrical )
- i usually watch this with a view to polishing a topical outline for a fancut. but something METALLO said the other day ....
- y'know, maybe the editing could have been tighter, maybe the pace a bit faster , did we need to see luthor granny chasing..? but while it may occaisionally mosey around from sequence to sequence it is never stupid. its never inane.
watch FF, FFrotss , X3 , spidey 1 , spidey 3... these are FUN movies. they're a HOOT ! but they are silly. they are live-action cartoons- and live by cartoon rules. ( mr fantastic stretches his arm down the hall to retrieve toilet paper..? ) so yeah- nice flix. fun movies.
superman returns is a FILM. this time i watched it closely- i ignored story content ( i know it by heart ) and payed attention to the framing , the composition , the camera angle , the sets , the " layering " , good goddammit - its beautiful.

For my Easter Break, I decided to watch the Theatrical ‘Lester’ Cut of “SUPERMAN II”Did I notice anything different, well, from what I can remember, only one scene so far, The scene in which Superman saves the boy from the waters of Niagara Falls. When that scene starts, and the Ken Thorne music score is there, as a ‘Welcome to Niagara Falls’, there is this gentleman in the crowd on your right hand side of the screen, he is wearing Sunglasses, what is unusual about him is – he does not take off his specs to give them a wipe, his glasses are still on, and he wipes them the same way as Clark Kent does when Kent doesn’t want Lois to discover his Secret Identity! Obviously Lester would have instructed the actor to do that on purpose to get a laugh, but to the average movie goer, I don’t think many people would have noticed – someone watching “II” for the first time who spots that, would have found it amusing to see Kent do the same thing. My favorite scene tonight other than the obvious favorite scenes would be the “Clark Exposed As Superman” scene – say what you will, but it made my heart melt, which is the exact medicine I needed!

I should watch the Superman movies again, but I feel the less I see them per year the more I'll appreciate them. So, the next I'm probably going to watch them is at Christmas. Long wait, but hopefully they will all feel fresh again by that time!

In the first time since this thread began, I have watched a Superman movie. I watched Superman Returns with the missus. I gave her the choice of STM or SR, and she chose SR.

Superman Returns DVD on TV on FX.
I wanted a taste of the special features since my copy of Superman Returns is the one disc.

Lois and Jason are in Lex's yacht, "I'm not supposed to speak to strangers." Oh, I also watched this last night, so one more for the census, Jor-L.

STM (1978 Theatrical)
My girl wanted to watch it, as she just read Maggin's novels. She HATES Superman, but loves those two books (as she should) as well as All Star Superman.
So yeah, STM...my favorite movie of all time. We had a blast watching it. Reeve really is magnificent. There's no other word for him in this. Magnificent.
Caught more things I hadn't noticed before...
Sports page of the "I Spent The Night With Superman" says "Mets Lose Again".
Also JUST realized that Miss Tesmacher goes out of her way to dress NOT SLUTTY when she knows Supes is coming over. Adorable.

Well, not sure if this counts, but I've recently aquired a HD STM that someone edited back down to the theatrical version as well as adding the original 1978 audio. I haven't watched it yet, but when it's christmas I'll be sure to watch it along side my HD copies of SII Lester Cut and SIII. All I need is Superman IV, can you imagine how epic that would be in HD? ;D
