Okay, so I am bored, and I've read about this before so I decided to check this out for myself. Below is some screen captures of each dvd in the same scene to show you the picture differences. After this like me, you might give it a second thought which DVD you put on in the future. ADM's NTSC Cut: Donner Cut PAL 2001: Donner Cut PAL 2006: Theatrical PAL 2006: I think the most noticeable one out of these is the donner cut 2006 version. For some reason that just seems very contrasty. However I think in this version it fixes the 'mysterious curtain' in the krypton explosion. But the problem is, throughout the movie there is a weird green hue to it and it loses some detail. The best in terms of detail and colour is ADM's NTSC version, if you look at the tiles on the floor you can see more detail. Very strange subtle differences. But I was bored, so I thought I'd share.

ADM's cut is basically the NTSC 2001 Donner Cut. He didn't toy around with any colors, I believe, so I consider your image there the real DVD.
Just look at Reeve's face on the top pic. It looks marginally sharper. All the PAL images look blurrier. PAL has almost 100 extra lines of resolution than NTSC. What gives?
Gosh, the 2006 DC PAL looks TERRIBLE.
...Funny. The Blu-ray doesn't fix the curtain during the Krypton explosion.

Yeah I know, I can't workout why PAL looks worse considering it is 576 lines rather than 480. Just goes to show.
I think for the blu-ray and hd-dvd release they used a slightly modified 2001 source because it sure as heck doesn't have the bad contrast of donners 2006 cut. However one thing I have noticed in the hd-dvd version is the reds are more pinkish than red. I will take a screenshot of the hd-dvd one later to show you what I mean.

I think I'll post some Star Wars screencaps, too.
Comparing 16x9 blowups of the original versions with the 2004 versions.

You wanna talk about DVD differences? Wayne's World, Stairway To Heaven. Nuff said.
Also worth noting, in the theatrical version of Spidey 3 there's a quick glimpse in the opening of Mary Jane; in the DVD it's changed to the familair upside-down kiss.

Hey Evil, How did you get those screen grabs at that size? Great shots there. I am trying to get a huge shot of the S from the beginning of the movie. I am not able to grab anything off of the HD DVD and the DVD is coming out too small. I am using power dvd 5 for the dvd, and Acer Arcade Deluxe for the HD DVD which wont let me grab screens.
Fab doesnt see the HD disc but does see a dvd disc.
Cheers

Cheers M Could you not have just pressed the "Prt Sc" button on your keyboard and then opened whatever art prog you have, for example Microsofts default Paint programme would have sufficed, then click edit and then paste?

That doesn't always work, especially with HD content.
