BTW, if the new Superman movie credits say "Based on the graphic novel by Siegel and Shuster", I will personally projectile vomit on anyone sitting in the first two rows in front of me. Anyone with me on this? Ok, so are you just inventing reasons to be pissed off at this movie, or is there a rumor that this is what the credits will say?

i am NOT up for a "big dumb" superman movie. even an abram's trek would be too much.
what abram's did with star trek was remove the traditional suspence war drama pacing, and depth of character and took what was left and dipped it in honey, rolled it in cap'n crunch, smothered it in caramel, poured chocolate chips over it, wrapped it up in a big waffle soaked in syrup, dusted it with powdered sugar, batterd and deep-fried it, put it on a bed of pancakes and jelly, coated it in whip cream, set it on a bed of cotton candy, and then dusted it with crystal meth.
the result? a very exciting, fun movie, but easily the dumbest of the series. i like abrams trek but it is completely devoid of substance.

the thing is, goyer's reverance for 'year one" is almost as bad as snyder wanting everything "awesome awesome awesome" i don't want to be a vagina about it ( well, i don't care if i'm a vagina ) but SUCKER PUNCH HAS TO FAIL. it has to BOMB. to paraphrase limbaugh " i hope he fails, because if he succeeds- we lose ". in this case, snyder having his way will ruin superman. so - by all that is holy- sucker punch must be a complete rebuke. it must be a clear message. whatever snyder THINKS is "awesome" has got to go. let suker punch be a 110% snyder approved wank-fest... and then IF he isnt fired, then he is on a leash. a darn leash with a shock collar and whatever he THINKS is cool for superman he is told to do the opposite.

I hate to say it, but I would absolutely take an "Abrams Trek" Superman at this point. It's time. We've never seen one before.
Is there anything less cool than Star Trek? Anything more insular? No. But EVERYONE went to see that Trek. Including girls. And we're guaranteed at least one sequel.
So yes, all of your criticisms of it are dead on, BUT, it was still recognizably Trek in form and content. And it had the most stunning visuals I've seen in ANY sci-fi flick in recent memory. So, if that's what I'm gonna get from a new Superman flick, I'll take it.
Unfortunately, "substance" these days means "navel gazing" to studios. I've had quite enough of it. We got it in Superman Returns, and we've had ten seasons of the WORST kind of it on Smallville.
Bring on the 'splosions.

Im confident snyder will bring superman back to top form...

Thing is about Trek (for me), it was superbly paced. It wasn't boring for a second. Plus, it was heaps of fun. I wouldn't mind that style of Supey film (especially after the dreary SR) at all.
Just stop fracking about with lens flares obviously

I dunno, I just have a good feeling about this movie for some reason. And I'm usually one of the more jaded ones.
SuckerPunch aside, 300 and Watchmen are as incredibly faithful to their source material as they could be for feature length films. Sure, Zack took the giant squid out, which bummed me out--but his reasoning was fair enough--to make the ending more believable for the audience. To give the ending--dare I say--verisimilitude?
I'm excited at the prospect of a Superman film that draws more of it's influence from the page, not the screen. The possibilty of seeing an Arctic Fortress that is actually a liveable workspace--filled not just with crystals, but with futuristic sci-fi technology, and statue of Jor-El and Lara holding up Krypton--has me giddy with anticipation. In a perfect world, it'll be something like Alex Ross' Fortress in Kingdom Come, which keeps the look of the crystals so it's still familiar--but all the cool tech is there for us comic fans.
Could it all end up being crap? Sure. But at this point, stop manufacturing things to get upset about before we even have any real sense of what this film will be.

Re the early suit reveal, do you think it'll be a few drawings similar to the first Capt America pics? Good approach with Cavill likely not in shape yet.

That seems to be the way they do things. Although, I'm not worried about Cavill not being in shape yet. The guy is in pretty great shape to begin with, and he's already had two months to prepare, and they start shooting in June.

Again, a great Kara Zor-El choice.
Not Lois though.
Too young for Lara?

It wouldn't matter. It says she didn't get the part.

Cavill should be ready to go for an early publicity photo, if that's what they decide to do. He looks ripped in those Immortals pictures; more bulk would be nice, but it's not like they need to give David Prowse a call.
I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with the world. I want to see some of the essence of the Donnerverse survive- the elegance of Kryptonian tech, triumphant music, etc., but I'm trying to stay open-minded about the new Superman universe. I want something that will seem both familiar and new at the same time; it doesn't have to walk the same path the other movies have, but I hope the destination doesn't change too much. If you know what I mean.
I'll welcome a more sci-fi heavy approach if they go in that direction. Superman vs. Darkseid could be amazing, either now or down the road.

I think they'd be foolish if they don't exploit as much sci-fi/kryptonian stuff as possible. This is where the "shared universe" approach from Marvel would make sense. Why not have the Guardians or a Green Lantern interacting with Krypton before it explodes? But, since we're not getting a shared universe, then they need to at least plant as many seeds as possible.
So, if we're seeing Krypton, I don't just want Jor-El, Lara, and the Science Council. We need Zor-El, Alura, Kara, Zod, Amalak, Black Zero, Brainiac, The Phantom Zone, etc etc all of it. Just mention 'em. Show 'em in the background. Do the things that Iron Man did right, but do 'em for Superman. Superman's universe IS as rich as any other comic company's ENTIRE one, so USE it!

I wouldn't mind seeing a shared DC universe, just as long as they A.) make it meaningful, not cute, and B.) avoid wasting half a sequel setting up a Justice League film that won't pay off for 2 years.
I still cringe at the winks and nods to Superman in B&R and BF.

I can't help but have a sick feeling we're going to get something in between Singer and Burtons costumes.

Strangely, I'm NOT worried about the suit! I think we're gonna get something pretty faithful, and at the very least, recognizably Superman. It's more about how Cavill carries himself in the suit!

Watchmen is incredibly faithful visually to the source material. On the flip side, so much is botched dramatically that it's hard to forgive.
If he can make you believe in the world of his film (despite the visuals, Snyder's Watchmen was not able to do that for me by the all-over-the place tone of trying to be satire, a serious drama, and a stylish mtv action film all at the same time) and care about the characters, I'll be impressed.
The guy can make great visual eye candy. Verisimilitude? I know Watchmen has heaven for some, but for me, although I love that he got a great looking visually faithful adaptation made, but outside of the voiceover sections, it was MISSING Verismilitude to me.
But- ultimately that's where the worries are already. If one thought his previous films acceptable, there's faith in the new film.
If one thought his previous films were disastrous on some front, there's not.
Simple as that.... but the clues that come out on which side of the fence the movie is going to lay keeps the Supes threads alive, no?

I think the visual style of "Superman," though I can't say for certain as it's early, but I kind of feel like - and I did say to the studio - that what's cool for me and interesting, and odd, is that "Superman" is probably going to be the most realistic movie I've ever made. It's kind of fun that the most realistic movie I probably will make is a movie called "Superman." Which shows how crazy my other movies are. Because I guess for him to be credible... He gets more credible by the reality that you can bring to him, you know emotionally, and visually, I think. i can't believe what i'm hearing....

Wow.. the more Snyder talks the more it seems like maybe he really does "get it"
I'm starting to really look forward to this.. I just need the rest of the casting announced and I need to see what the costume looks like. Although I'm pretty sure the costume is going to be pretty faithful to the source.

the reality based approach sounds like nolan's touch. even with all the red flags, i'm starting to feel some optimism that they might do something really neat. still think that snyder's dawn of the dead remake is his best movie, easy, and it didn't have the overdone visuals that 300/Watchmen had, so if that's the way we're headed, never know, could be good.

We aren't really downing the movie.. was are just a bit optimistic based on Snyder's previous work as director. We want a good Superman movie as the next Supesfan.. but we all have our opinions on what we are expecting..
I was expecting that nothing good was going to come of this, but my tune is changing. Things are looking better, as far as the cast and things that Snyder has been saying..
I want a Kick-booty Superman movie, and I'm hoping he delivers.
As far as a Trek 09' style of a Superman movie... ooh, bring it on!!
They need something that can please the hardcore fans such as ourselves but bring new fans to the table (As long as the Core of Superman remains the same of course) and by doing what Trek 09' did, if they can pull that off, I'll be one happy Supes fan.
