I think the next movie could be done without the kid being a big focus even if he is around. its possible. I think this was the best possible way this particular idea has been handled. Lois and Clark really did a terrible job with it.
The kid playing Jason was a good actor. Miles ahead of Jake Lloyd, the kid from Mummy 2, the kid from Zorro 2 because Singer treated him as a real child and not a smartass little adult in a 5 year olds body.
But its hard to say exactly what Singer will do.

What they could do with this film is literally make it about a man made of steel. Ditch the whole 'super man' idea because the real superman is no longer with us. I suggest Bob Hoskins to play the metallic hero, and DJ Norman Cook to play his arch nemesis 'aluminium Alan' Could not be reached for comment ...

For all the people that complain about Superman Returns...just thing back ten years when ALL comic book movies and tv shows at the time were an absolute joke that Hollywood didn't take seriously.
Shaq should have been kicked out of the SR premiere for making that crap

Well I suppose they could put the kid aside while they focus on a different plot, I dunno.
If the next movie's gonna succeed, it needs a lot more than a new rogue I think. That's the first step, but it can't just be Brainiac coming to earth to pick a fight with Superman and that's it. He has to have some sortof motivation that isn't cliche. Look at the Joker in The Dark Knight. He was out to kill and cause mayhem sure, but his motivation made it all seem so intelligent.
Singer could have taken Lex's plot to steal Kryptonian tech in a better direction. I don't mind Lex having a thing for real estate, but he isn't so 1 dimensional that it's the only thing he's concerned with. heck, even in Superman IV, he moved onto a different scheme that had nothing to do with land.
When you're talking about alien technology, a real estate scheme just seems so mundane and uncreative.

You forget Lex's thrist for vengeance in SR? No other incarnation ahs come as close to killing Superman and shutting up a bout how superior he is. He's bitter and he taunts Superman in ways no other Luthor ever did save for maybe Clancy Browns. His feud with Superman is far more personal this time and that IS part of his plan to return the "favor" of taking 5 years of his life..
Lex's scheme was ALSO to get his hands on advanced alien technology. It was about more than just real estate. He says it in the trailers. Technology THOUSANDS of years more advanced than anything anyone else could throw at him. Its obvious he has grander ambitions. The movie just doesn't feel the need to beat us over the head with it.

If you think Superman Returns is as bad as Batman and Robin or Lois and Clark at the end you've lost it. Your opinion doesn't even have credibility.
STEEL made ONE MILLION DOLLARS at the Box office. Superman Returns made 200 million domestic. Steel was AWFUL Hurst.
Your going to tell me with a straight face that as much as you hate SR (which you haven't even seen) is worse than the movie that KILLED the batman franchise for 8 years and Clooney ADMITTED was a screw up adn Schumacher publically APOLIZED for???

The kid should die in the next film, maybe have Brainiac kill him in front of Superman to drive him over the edge!

I actually enjoyed Batman and Robin. I knew after seeing Batman Forever it was going to be full blown cheese, which I didn't mind. I suppose because I was already in the mindset of it being cheesy it didn't bother me too much. Gotta love Arnie as Mr Freeze ;D

That could work but at this point its kind of predictable. I REALLY like Vals idea that the kids not really or at least not really Superman and Lois's son.
If anyone has ever seen the Star Trek TNG episode "The Child" that's basically my idea to resolve it.
Then he dies or just vanishes. An offshoot I've had of that is, and Val and some of the other comic book guys know this,...Brainiac eventually learned to pass his code down genetically.

Anyone remember the 'Angry God' term that was used a few months back referring to Supes in the sequel?
My 1st thought when I read that was some evil bastard kills Jason and Supes goes all insane on them. Now, I used to think it would be the easiest cope out, however after thinking it through, I really believe it could work if handled right, as long as we are made to feel for Supes and watch him hand out a beating on a scale which we`ve never seen before.

I can stomach Batman & Robin over Batman Forever somehow.
Arnie is indeed hilarious as Freeze. And Clooney is hilarious as himself.

or maybe have Brainiac open up the phantom zone and imprisons the child.

I`m the opposite, I can Stomach Batman forever but not Batman & Robin. At one point I used to really like Batman Forever but as I grew older we just grew apart. I`m getting impatient with news on MOS, though. I want some concrete news NOW!

At this rate, I'll bet they'll announce a third Nolan Batman movie before we get any news about Man of Steel.

I still think you guys are being harsh on Bryan Singer.
If he started work on another picture whilst working on MOS (or any of his movies past or future) we think he wasn't focused on it.
I'm content to wait untill Valkyrie is done for this to evolve. Each project should be as important as the last.

I LOVE Jason. I LOVE that Superman is finally being allowed to develop & grow. The actor who played Jason is just about the best case scenario of a child actor. Not annoying, not over the top. He was quite & cute.
Perfect for my taste.
To me, The Donnerverse Superman story arc has ALWAYS been about Fathers & sons. So, to me, the addition of Supe's son is PERFECT.
Kal-El left us in search of the one thing that eludes him. Flesh & Blood relatives. His Kin. While, all the while, unbeknownst to him, it was right here on earth, waiting for him.
LOVE IT.
