Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a lot of his success has to do with the roles he chooses or gets offered. I haven't seen him in anything, but SR. I know he played a small role in that Kevin Smith porno film, which I refuse to watch because I'm done with Seth Rogen. (And, for that matter, I've been turned off to Kevin Smith's movies for a few years.)

I think the poor guy has been typecast, which is unfortunate because he does have a lot of potential. But this has happened with every actor that's played Superman. I don't think Welling has much of a career after Smallville ends next year. Which is a pity, he has the potential to be a good actor, too.
I hope Brandon has better luck, I know he's working on a few things right now. Hopefully things work out well for him.

Brandon needs to star in indie films, that's the best way of catching a studio's attention. Scott Pilgrim is a good role for him, let's see how that goes.

Brandon should return in a reboot. Disagree. If Brandon is used, then it won't be a Superman reboot even if it tries to be, it'll be a prequel to SR. Brandon needs to go.

Chris Reeve made some low budget obscure films after Superman, but he had the knowledge of a definite sequel coming up. He also worked with some good directors, eg Sidney Lumet.
Being typecast never done Sean Connery any harm.
Maybe Bryan Singer should have put "Next Year: The Man of Steel..... (make me out to be liar Warner Bros. I dare you.)" in the end titles of Superman Returns.
The more years that linger between Superman Returns and (the next Superman project) makes the concept of a total revamp more feasible. I know it'll not be what a lot of Superman Returns fans will want to hear, but it may be the reality, just to have Superman Returns as an ending to the Donnerverse and begin again.
I groan at the idea of a new Krypton, new theme and a new Luthor, again!!
It'll be interesting if Brandon's agent fights for Brandon's Superman to appear albiet briefly in Green Lantern to keep the dream alive.

It did back in the day. Didn't most of his "non Bond" films flop until Untouchables?

Brandon needs to star in indie films, that's the best way of catching a studio's attention. Scott Pilgrim is a good role for him, let's see how that goes. He is also playing Dylan Dog in "Dead of Night", which is an indie comicbook. It's huge in Europe. It sells around One million copies a month. There is lots of potential there. "I think the poor guy has been typecast,"I'm not sure he has been typecast yet; he played a comedic character in Zach and Miri, and he did it very well. He got good reviews for it.

Wath do you think of a total reboot, in a 1938 Metropolis? I mean do exactly wath Peter Jackson did with King Kong and put the action in the year the character was created. This concept may help us to avoid comparison with Reeve and Routh. For me it’s the better way to retell the origin with a new approach, a baby Kal-El who fall on earth in 1911.

My question is not do you want a reboot or not. I want to know, IF WB do a reboot, wath do you think of this 1938 idea?

I'm not a big fan of rebooting the franchise, but this 1938 concept sounds pretty cool. It didn't help King Kong in the box office, though.

i personally don't like the idea of a "vintage superman." if WB did do a reboot i'd want it to be present day.

The whole template is already set in "It's Superman!" the novel, which is a GREAT read, really awesome book.
They make that into a movie, it'd be incredible.
If a reboot is gonna happen, which I'm against, I'd be all for a reboot in the 30's. frack yeah, I would be.

Yeah, I could totally dig on that.
I dont want a reboot, but if they did, that would be the way to go.
It wouldnt make any money, but it would be great.

For those who think that this concept can look like black and white movie and can be boring… I don’t figure it that way. Metropolis can have a vintage look but not Superman and all the the things from Krypton. I think Brainiac can be a good nemesis in a 30s story because the computers and all the technology were not very elaborate at that time. He can be very scary for the citizen of Metropolis. And Superman will be the only one who can save them so they will cal him: The man of tomorrow! UCFKevin : Thank you for the title of the novel: It’s Superman, i’ll try to find it

It sounds interesting for an animated movie like JL: TNF, but for live action and as the relaunch of the franchise, nah. We want the next Superman movie to be great AND profitable cuz we all want sequels.
I want Superman to go cosmic. I want more sci fi and adventure. I wanna see Superman vs Brainiac! And less Luthor, please. He should always be there but in the background.
Honestly, I dont' think a reboot is needed any way. There is still lots of potential in the Donner/Singerverse. Plus I like my Superman to continue being Earth's Greatest Protector and the MOST powerful superhero of them all. He shouldn't go back, he should move forward, IMO.
Any way, I just don't see WB going for a 1938 reboot.

Actually, you can go big and cosmic with a 1938 setting. In fact, you can do the cosmic stuff even better because all the pimped-out alien technology will be totally beyond 1938 Earth. Earth would be at a total disadvantage, and Superman would have no Earth scientists to turn to for help. He'd be on his own against the likes of Darkseid and Brainiac, and more tension can be mined that way.
And to be honest, I'm sick to death of present-day Superman. The more I watch the Fleischer stuff, the more I want a period Superman. Superman, as a character and a concept, works far better in a retro setting. He has no place in a day and age where grim-n-gritty lunatics and psychos are the heroes of choice. In the late '30s through the '50s? Right at home. Put him there and keep him there, says I.

I think Superman Can work in any time, honestly. The Superman story is very adaptable to the times. And the proof is that he is still popular and the most recognizable superhero there is.

Wow, could it be?
A reboot that I would actually watch?
As most of you know, I CAN'T STAND THE MERE THOUGHT of having to revisit Krypton and Smallville origin stories again.
But this vintage idea might be the ONLY exception...if I was in charge of the franchise.

It did back in the day. Didn't most of his "non Bond" films flop until Untouchables? From what I understand, The Anderson Tapes did well. Man Who Would Be King and Robin & Marian got good reviews, I think.

Love the idea. Something I've been kicking around in my head since the early 90s. In fact, I once suggested a (pre B&R) George Clooney as the perfect Superman for a pre-WW2 Superman movie.
Anyone ever watch the Hudsucker Proxy? Anyone else get serious Superman vibes from the newspaper scenes?
