How about a futuristic Superman movie? The Earth would have advanced weaponry to use against Superman and he could have a futuristic Super-suit made of glass and metal which (while keeping the classic colors and a high tech retractable cape) would look awesome! Superman needs to move forward not backward in my opinion.

They just need to figure out how to make KINGDOM COME: THE MOVIE already.
When you think about it, the climate is already set. The last Superman movie was considered a failure amongst many, while other superhero movies thrive. It echoes the opening of Kingdom Come perfectly!

How about the title: Superman Redeemed?
It could start out as a 'sequel' to Superman Returns, but 5 minutes into the film Darkseid creates a rip in the fabric of time which erases the Superman Returns universe out of existence. Then in the new Universe they tell a new Superman origin story with new actors/etc.
The new Superman universe could be set in the not too distant future and perhaps even feature an older Superman who finally dons the metalic red and blue armour of Superman at the films climax. Then, at the end of the new series run... we have the ultimate face off between the 'new' Superman and Darkseid!

The 1938 idea is interesting.... but, given the two choices of retro or a present day Superman film, I think the world in present times needs more hope than ever--- and the right story could really connect. The Batman franchise actually (and fortunately) allowed us both a '1930's-ish' style Batman (sorta) with Tim Burton and a fantastic contemporary one with Christopher Nolan. Since getting any Superman movie right now seems like such a bear from WB, I think regardless of whether or not they do MOS or a reboot (OUGH!)..... present time is the way to go.... but I'd prefer it not be TOO present--- seeing young Clark Kent with a cellphone in "Smallville" still trips me out....

when Routh CGI-ally opens his shirt to change to Superman I've never noticed it and I saw the film twice on the big screen. Which change does it happen? Going up the elevator shaft?

It happens in the alley. The only reason they notice it, is because they know its there. Its near perfect looking. And its only his arms & the "S" underneath. He originally didn't have the costume underneath because he wasn't sure if he'd ever be Superman again. He opened the shirt forgetting the costume was in his suitcase was in the Daily Planet broom closet. He realizes its not on him & flies up to a planet window as Clark, changes in the broom closet & then saves the plane.

Oh, I noticed it. The \S/ wasn't in the right place under his shirt. They shifted it so that it would be visible after only opening the top two buttons of his shirt.

SO glad they didn't go with that, it would have killed the momentum and urgency of the scene. I love it the way it is in the final cut. Also, I liked the shirt rip. It was different, more energetic and kinda crazy and less staged. It felt pretty realistic to me but it wasn't great either; I'd have liked to see the S more clearly and bigger on the screen. But all in all, I'm ok with it. I also liked it that we finally see him full in costume Until Lois does. Loved that reveal! It's magical to me.

Speaking of reveals, I was never a fan of Supes' first flight in STM at the fortress. It's so zoomed out and fuzzy. As a kid, I couldn't tell if it was Reeve or East. ;D
The DVD and Blu-ray sure helped though.
When he does that turn at the end, I can really see him trying hard to keep tucked in and withstand gravity.

But I still like it.

I always thought it could have been Jeff East flying out of the fortress when I was younger.

It did back in the day. Didn't most of his "non Bond" films flop until Untouchables? Flopped or not, he made some wise decisions: He starred in all sorts of films, from wearing nappies to being a Spanish warrior, all with a Scottish accent. Incredibly diverse career.

Would have liked the "S" reveal in Superman Returns to be more prominent, like in STM, establishing that this is it, he's here. In Superman Returns it could have been, this is it, he's back!
Off topic a bit, Superman IV is on UK Channel 5 (or FIVE as it's now known) on SAturday afternoon. Wonder if it'll be the slightly extended version (92 mins).
Panned and scanned off course (with a FIVE in the corner of the screen).

Strange that, he didn't have a real big hit till The Untouchables. Didn't both him and Michael Caine (not Jackson) have a similar comeback around the same time, Caine with Hannah and her Sisters. Is exactly (or is that "exaaaaaaaaactly") 3 years since I saw Superman Returns on 15th JUly 2006 in an Imax preview.

Superman needs to move forward not backward in my opinion. Uh...why would Superman EVER need a suit of armor? Or a retractable cape? That's Tim Burton/Jon Peters thinking, thinking about toys and glitz and not giving any thought to what makes sense for the character. A metallic dye job on the fabric Superman's costume is made of? By all means, do so (you could do that in a 1938-period Superman movie, too). But "a suit of metal and glass with a retractable cape"? That's not remotely Superman. At all.

Wath do you think of a total reboot, in a 1938 Metropolis? I think it's a cool idea. Superman could fight the Nazis like Indiana Jones did and like Superman did in the 1940s animated shorts.

I loved The Offence too. I love the scene in the interrogation room which he starts smacking the guy around and then he starts slamming him against the table over and over "like a bloody yo-yo".
The Anderson Tapes was great too.
A lot of people disliked Meteor, and although the effects are kinda 1960s Star Trek, I liked Connery and Karl Malden in those roles.
I also enjoyed Outland, Zardoz, but can you believe that I still haven't seen---sacrilege for a HUGE Connery fan---the Man Who Would Be King.

Oh, Connery made some decent films alright, but he couldn't escape the Bond curse for years. I'm glad he made a good comeback in the late 80s.

I always had the idea that some more stories of Superboy would be great if set in 1962, my ideal era as i grew up reading some of those stories written back then.
