While this is 'Superman Cinema'- I think the connection would be seeing the first "Crisis on Infinite Earths"'s Superman reboot origin that came soon after under John Byrne (and later modified by Roger Stern and Jerry Ordway) as it was the first Superman comics origin that incorporated the Reeve Superman movie series (to a degree)--- hence, no Superboy/Krypto like the movie, Superman drawn like Reeve under Byrne (and Ordway). It's a broad article simplifying what's been a gigantic mess over at DC comics for decades.... very well done imo. comicsalliance.com/dc-comics-reboot-history/

I've definitely got to read that. Continuity is properly f****d now. There's a lot I love about the Silver Age and I like Superboy stories but I've never been a fan of Clark having a Superboy period as part of his origin. Strange isn't it? But I prefer him doing good deeds low key and without a costume and only becoming a costumed hero in adulthood. There's a reason most adaptations don't cover Superboy. There's just something more mythic about that basic early golden age origin IMO. If DC wants to do it I think the best compromise is something like the Legion of Superheroes cartoon did. The LOS needs "superman" and he spends time in the 30th century as Superboy helping them. Then he goes back to his own time but they wipe his memories.
Never cared for Byrnes birthing matrix idea either. Even though MOS pushed the genetically engineered elements more than ever even if didn't. I think Gods and Monsters is the first time it's been used outside of comics. DC should just take the best elements from the various takes on Supermans origin and run with it. Or blatantly copy the DCAU. They pretty much did what I said. I think I could write something better than some of the poop they've churned out as far as a new continuity.

I admit, from growing up loving the Legion stories, I do miss them calling Superman "Superboy" in that series, though....

That was a funny read and didn't even get to cover the new 52 and convergence. It's like every time DC tries to fix their continuity issues they make it worse.

It wasn't so bad with Crisis on Infinite Earths when they did (pretty much) a company-wide reboot.... but when they kept having a new crisis every few years- geez. The latest one had a Superman series in the past by Morrison, one that supposedly took place in the 'present'- and I'd read that writers were getting (rightfully) pissed off at the lack of coordination and confusing continuity- if that's so, what was a reader to do? In any case- most of the time now, I'm just thankful for the nice reprint editions of the stuff I did like back in the day. The rest of it..... well, saving a lot of money on stuff once continuity in comics started going crazy. (I don't imagine Marvel is that much better with the Ultimates)

Didio and Lee are killing DC with gimmicks and poor leadership. Didio hated Hypertime? What he's done is basically the same thing. What an booty. And Lees costume redesigns looked like something from 1993. Ugh. I loved this guys stuff when I was younger but now it looks so tired.

Loved Lee's work on the X-men and I do enjoy some of his stuff still- but not for his costume designs. Didn't he put a black leather jacket on Wonder Woman for a redesign? Ugh.
