I always thought it was weird that Reeve--a Julliard trained actor with aspirations of directing-- would direct the horrible moon fight sequence between Nuclear Man and Superman.
How could a smart man like Reeve direct a fight straight out of WWF wrestling?
THEN I learned of the dramatic irony of the fight.. a subtle technique that only smart people can understand.
See... when Superman flew Nuclear man to the moon, he left him in the elevator instead of burying the elevator in the moon's surface.
Superman overlooks the fact that some light could creep in between the elevator cracks.
When Nuclear man escapes he's like "Fool! You should have buried me.. now I WILL BURY YOU!"
He then procedes to pound Superman into the moon... Superman was ignorant of the fact that Nuclearman did to him what Superman should have done to Nuclearman.

Coming up with creative fight scenes (particularly with no budget) is highly underrated. Joss Whedon oversaw years of tv, but even he admitted difficulty in trying to make action scenes fresh in Avengers, even with so many tools at his disposal. Also, I notice many of the best fight scenes in film involve using other items in the environment- but what else was there on the moon outside of rocks and dust? The moon fight wasn't the worst SIV had to offer, but was certainly one of the cheapest (outside of the 'underground battle' between Supes and Non in SII).
