The moment he said that he doesn't watch television.
Seriously he's supposed to be a reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper and he won't even turn on the freaking tube to see what's going on.
Apparently he buys a set by SIV but still... Clark should start watching TV lest he makes a complete a$$hole of himself by being completely oblivious to a major terrorist attack.

It was probably on his annual review. After all, he's good but Lois Lane is better.

Well.... Perry must not think that much of Clark, as Perry didn't even notice Clark didn't come back with Lois from Niagara Falls, in SII as he never inquires about him, apparently. (Why didn't Jimmy ask where Mr. Kent was? I guess we didn't need that extra beat, (it's not even mentioned in the Mank script), but would of been nice to have a moment to mention him.)

I'm sure Lois told everyone at the Daily Planet that Zod killed Clark on the way back from Niagra Falls. I like to think the scene with the Sheriff and Deputy Dwayne meeting the villains was originally (as shot by Donner) supposed to be between Clark and Lois and the villains en route back from the North Pole Lois would have been telling Clark about the "wide selection" at Don's Diner when they run into the villains. Lois would have insisted that Clark get out of the car to "take care" of the villains to test to see if Clark was still a "man" if not a Superman anymore. Zod and Co. would have played around Clark to test their powers which would have humiliated him. Instead of a badge, Ursa would have ripped Clark's pants off.. and then Zod would have taken the shotgun and shot Clark in the booty. That's why when Clark and Lois actually reach the diner Clark really is keen to fight someone without powers (Rocky) to show Lois that at least he can still take on someone in a fair fight.

I would not have liked that scenario. Well it explains why Clark was eager to prove himself to Lois by challenging Rocky to a fight. If he had just gotten the $hit kicked out of him by the villains he would at least want to show Lois he could handle himself in a fair fight. It also explains why Clark complains about a stiff back since his pants would have been torn from his body by Ursa with the violent force of a hurricane. That'd be enough to jack up his back. Clark: I can't eat fish. Lois: You can eat anything you want, Clark. You can eat meat and potatoes. Clark: I couldn't go anywhere I was expected to eat fish. Lois: They got beans. Clark: I can't eat beans. I come out in a rash if I eat beans! Lois: Look Clark, they have a wide selection. Clark: I think I'll try the fish. Clark: I dunno.. by the look of 'em I'll bet $10 they're from Los Angeles Lois: Isn't that General Zod your father was talking about before we killed his spirit ghost? Clark: Uhhhhhhhh.... Lois: Hey ya hippies get ur butts off the road! Zod: Make way! Lois: You hear that?! That son of a bitch give me an order? Clark you take care of 'em! Clark: But I.... Lois: Clark.. you gotta prove you can still kick some a$$ if you wanna be my man (gives him a shotgun). Clark: Just what the heck you think ur doin' here! Ursa: What are these things on your legs.. why aren't they connected to your shirt? Clark: They're my pants ma'am. (Ursa tears them off leaving a now pantless Clark spinning like a top). Clark: Holy skunk sweat! (Zod then grabs the shotgun and shoots Clark in the a$$) Zod: Crude noisemaker. Clark: Uhh.. Lois I think I'll try those beans after all... lets go to the diner.
