Zod didn't really need to be a general in SII.... how was being a general evident in, or add to, his character?

Zod didn't really need to be a general in SII.... how was being a general evident in, or add to, his character? It suggested that Krypton had a military, and that the character had a leaning that would make him capable of violence if he felt it necessary. (Plus, it was in the comics first) Stamp had said that Donner had conversations with him about the character in order to entice him to play him in the movie--- even if the character didn't necessarily show all those layers (particularly under Lester). I'd be curious about what it was that Donner said to Stamp... On another note- It's a good thing they didn't make him a Captain of something. Captain Zod just sounds a little too superhero-ey. Private Zod just sounds weird. Hence, General was the best choice for a name.

Then again.. Petty Officer Zod wouldn't be as intimidating.
