Marvel gets a lot of praise for making the shared universe concept such a big deal right now and launching a new era in comic book/superhero movies but what some people don't always give them credit for is doing it without their two biggest properties at the time: the X-men and Spider-Man.
WB's had nearly all their DC superheroes at their disposal but still has trouble. When they've ventured away from Batman and Superman films and tried other characters it's usually failed. What if JL were made with its classic lineup minus the big two? Could the DCEU reach the same heights the MCU has without them?

Very true- If Iron Man hadn't become a megahit, but a modest one- I think the MCU might have pulled forward, but perhaps slower and with less momentum. Feige says/said that he gets nervous each and every time there's a new launch of a new character and/or movie, and I believe him. I think that phrase 'you're only as good as your last movie' probably rings true- unless you have some credit with other megahits, then maybe you get to hang in a little more.... but I look at Singer's Apocalypse and suddenly everyone seems to have forgotten DOFP, X2, X1, etc.- I'm glad that Thor/Iron Man/Captain America at least were all considered 'unworthy' properties at the time for studios to hold onto. Having those three heroes at the center of Avengers made this old fanboy have chills (in a good way). I do wonder if Feige has a 'second in command' who knows the ropes and can do a worthy job in case anything happens to him (Heavens forbid!). If Feige wants to do the next 20-30 years making Marvel Studio movies, and making this HIS lifetime work, I'm there.
