Here's what I don't get.... Superman tricks NM into going into the elevator and then closes it behind him.
This should be enough to de-power NM since no sunlight can get in there.. but THEN Superman feels the need to break the power which turns off the elevator lights.
It is implied that the elevator lights going off are what de-powers NM... I don't get it?
Someone explain this to me.

One of two answers: Either: (a) Superman knew that those particular elevator lights were solar-powered, -or- (b) Reeve heard that the budget got slashed in half that day and just wanted to punch something, and have it written into the script.
