We learn in Superman IV that Jonathan Kent was always an incorrigible jokester.
He had made a joke about baby Clark Kent having a bad dream and cracking the crib.
In STM, Jonathan cheers up his son by joking that Clark's purpose on Earth is to play football.
I was wondering how come Jonathan being a joker wasn't followed up on in Man of Steel?
He never told a single joke in that film.

Anyway the "joke" about Clark kicking the baby's crib and cracking it makes absolutely no sense unless the joke recipient is in on the fact that Clark is actually Superman.
Thus, the joke is funny for the audience but how the FUUUCK did Hornsby think that it was a joke?

He probably also thought the diner bully shouldn't react to having his truck / livelihood destroyed, as that too would be faggy. F*ck WB for hiring him.

Yes, but why did Horsby think it was humorous that Joker Jonathan said that Clark kicked and cracked his crib? ? Why did Horsby think this was funny if he DIDN'T know that Clark was Superman?

Maybe he was just making conversation. Which up until that line, was hardly sparkling.
Perhaps it was the only thing he can remember Jonathan Kent saying.
The guy is probably an expert on fake, greasy laughter. What makes you think his laugh was genuine ?
He was just trying to get Clark buttered up, for a multitude of reasons I'll wager.

Buttering him up huh? I guess that's why Hornsby told Clark that he was an abstinent piece of shiit just like his father. I guess that's why he laughed at Clark's feeble athletic ability and that's why he told Clark that the place where he was raised was a worthless pile of trash and his home should be bulldozed to the ground in the name of "progress". No wonder they never released the scene when Horsby pisses on the graves of Joker Jonathan and Martha Kent.

No wonder they never released the scene when Horsby pisses on the graves of Joker Jonathan and Martha Kent. It was a challenging scene, not least when Clark vapourises Hornsby with a glance. It's inclusion would have improved the movie. Perhaps Pa Kent's biggest jape was pretending to have a heart attack, tricking Martha and Clark into burying him alive. The footage of Kent trying to claw his way out of his coffin was destroyed on the orders of Sidney J Furie.

You don't understand. The reason the joke is FUNNY is because we (the audience) know that Clark is Superman but Hornsby himself doesn't. So if you had a baby and showed me his cracked crib and I said "oh wow roffellamo what happend to the baby's crib?" and you said "Oh the baby had a bad dream and kicked it!" That would NOT be a funny joke!

Hornsby even laughs after saying goodbye - he's just a naturally funny, affable, cheap real estate kinda guy.

How does the notion of a baby kicking a crib and cracking it make any kind or satirical sense? "So everyone did you hear the one about the baby who kicked his crib?" "No......" "The baby.... CRACKED the crib! "LOL Soooooo funny.........."
