Mine is this. Its shows an experienced and no nonsense Superman who is world weary and lost his innocence. He's turned the world backward, lost his powers, and been evil... he's been around and now he's just all business. Yes, in SIV he's past his prime. He looks like a 57 year old man, with a sagging belly, the emergence of man tits, and hair that looks and smells like a rotting dead carcass. But god dammit... HE'S STILL SUPERMAN!

I never noticed the reflection of people (staff? Extras?) non-nonchalantly hanging out as fire and heck breaks out around them before.

I think we could all wish we could look as good as he does there, though!

Ugh.. he looks awful here.
But that's the point.. Superman is still brave enough to show his face in public despite looking like a wash-up and THAT'S why this pic is awesome.

I think you need to re-evaluate what awful means.

Would have been nice to have the spit curl. For a dude recovering from a hernia he looks fine. Not a patch on Superman 3 but he still looks the part to me.

Now THIS is the best picture of Superman. A spit curl that forms a perfect circle dead-center on the forehead. An impressive physique with not an ounce of fat... bony girl-arms be dammed! The short cape ending just under the booty checks for added utility! THIS is the true SuperMAN!

You'll get no argument that he looks better in the STM pic. He's still most definitely Superman in the Superman 4 pic too.

A washed-up, has-been, shadow of his former self Superman. In every shot in IV, Superman has a beer gut. He has hair that looks like a coiled up possum too.. obviously because Supes now has to dye his graying hair black every day and insert a gallon of wax into it just to hold his frizzy old man hair in place. But that's EXPECTED of an older Superman pushing middle age. But despite the visual shortcoming due to his ravaged body, Superman still has the guts to face the world with his head held high. THAT'S why I respect Superman in IV.

Having said that, I think Reeve of course looked in his prime as Superman in STM, but was fine in SIV to me. And... if you need a comparison of an actor who didn't take care of himself enough for a role, just check out Star Trek: Generations with Kirk looking less than his best. But- everyone is entitled to their opinion. I still think it's unfortunate that SIV was such a bomb. Even if Cannon made Superman 5 on a two dollar budget, if it had Reeve, I'd still think it would have been worth it to get made.

Cos with the $2 budget of SV I DOUBT they would be able to afford a gym membership for their star actor.

Well, even having said what I did, I still own Star Trek: Generations on blu ray.... so what can I tell you?

I think by SIV, they could get away with a Superman that looked like crap and flying cardboard.
Because we already believed Superman looked great and could fly, we subconsciously accepted SIV's crappy SFX

Because we already believed Superman looked great and could fly, we subconsciously accepted SIV's crappy SFX Canon's thinking is a whole bizzarro universe, though. WB could have done a more expensive SIV at any time, and have offered Reeve an offer he couldn't refuse- but they just sat on it and also were part of Richard Pryor's dominance of SIII- So.... Whether it was a 10 cent Reeve Superman movie or nothing that WB offered- hey, I'm glad that we got to have more Reeve Superman (and cast) than not.
