And it's a Superboy And The Legion book.
Sorta.
Geoff Johns and Francis Manapaul are the creative team, which is awesome. But, I'm a little torn about the format.
Apparently, the book is a "co-feature" book. So half the book will be Conner Kent/Superboy stories (which I believe are set in the present), and the other half will be new Legion stories.
I dunno. I don't think I need to add another Superman title to my list if it's a monthly Conner book. It's not that I hate the character or anything, I just never thought he was strong enough to support his own title. And honestly, I think he has no place in current continuity (especially since they're re-introducing Clark's past as Superboy). If anything, they should ship him off to the future and make him a full time Legionnaire.

It's the younger Superman of the 4 Superman during the whole Death/Return of saga.
He has, indeed, turned into a character that belongs on a team. He can't hold his own, I dunno, just isn't that interesting a character.
The Legion stuff should be pretty fucking sweet, though. I've always had a soft spot for them, even though I'm not all that well versed on them other than what I've read through out the years in Superman comics, and that IS quite a bit...

I've never liked any of the Superboys. I would've been fine with it if the replacement Superman Superboy had been killed for good, and early on. He should've saved real Superman's life from Cyborg or something, I dunno. I know they were going for younger readers, but meh...he never did it for me. Nor does Superman Prime whatsoever, I hate how they rely on him sometimes in the comics as the end all be all of powerful beings. Just get rid of him, dammit, for GOOD.

I detest Superman Prime. He's annoying. I'm not digging Legion Of 3 Worlds as much as I should be, and it's his fault.
I used to dig Conner, especially early on. He had a cool costume, and I thought it was an interesting way to pass on the name. However, enough is enough now with him. Either put him on the Titans, or ship him off to the 30th Century full time with the Legion!

He was killed off so well, that I think it's a giant mistake to bring him back. Unfortunately, he's one of Geoff Johns' favorite characters to write for. On the plus side, it probably means a good royalty check to the Shuster family each month...

Anyone read this? I thought it was pretty good, and the art is awesome. The first 2 page spread is gorgeous. And it is refreshing to have a nice character piece. I thought it was really well done, and will continue buying the title for awhile. Though it's interesting how it shows both #1 and#504. Is it technically a new volume or not, a little confusing.

I loved it. And I didn't expect to. It was just a sweet/solid book. Loved the art. Loved the Krypto bits. Loved the last page of the Superboy story.
And I REALLY loved the dual numbering. I don't think it's right to re-number a book with the kind of history that Adventure Comics has, so it's nice to see they're compromising with cranky fogeys like me.

I've always thought they should do a dual number instead of starting over with #1. They could renumber with each story arch but also keep the original numbering.

wait a sec,
the main-continuity superman will now have a superboy past ? is that correct ? if so thats a terrible idea .
the whole premise of superboy undermies the impact of superman being a big deal.
- unless - his superboy years are spent ENTIRELY in the future with the legion and , on reaching adulthood he returns to his era . that would be....mildly inconsistant but a lot better .

Yes, they're bringing back Superboy. But it appears that all of his time in costume is spent in the future with the Legion. Superboy will NOT be a public figure in his present, even if he is wearing the suit.
I think this is a fantastic idea, and the best of all possible worlds.
Superman's past as Superboy and Lex's roots in Smallville have been PART of the character much longer than they HAVEN'T. And while I understand why they were done away with for awhile, it's time to embrace these things again.

( in the old days , the earth-one superman started as superboy , and earth-2 superman held true to the original premise ...as an aside , why is the original superman on earth-TWO ? . anyway- i miss the simplicity of the earth-1 earth-2 universe )

I'm 32.
So, I was old enough to love the Byrne revamp. Still do. But I realize that ultimately, Superman works best with...
Phantom Zone criminals from Krypton
A superpowered cousin named Kara (and a boyhood encounter with Mon-El)
Different kinds of Kryptonite
A Lex who knew Clark in Smallville
A superpowered dog. (NOT a cat, monkey, horse, etc)
A past as Superboy (Agree with you, for the most part...but I think the Legion is the perfect "parachute" for the concept, and should remain that way)
NO Marriage or children, with the classic "triangle" intact.
These were important parts of the Superman mythos for 30 years or more before they were erased in the name of "continuity". Without these admittedly somewhat whimsical elements, Superman is just another power guy. A particularly NOBLE one, but just a power guy nonetheless. It's like trying to do Captain Marvel without the rest of the family and the fucking talking tiger. He becomes just a big dope in a red suit.

Look younger, too.
I walk that fine line between refusing to grow up and having a midlife crisis at any given moment.
