So that means that now EVERYTHING that Crisis on Infinite Earths accomplished has been eradicated?

I KNEW IT. I KNEW Barry was coming back!
All I had was the lightning at the end of 52 or whenever the fuck it was, but I KNEW IT.
It's gonna own all. Ohhh man, I'm so excited.
Goddamn you, Val. Goddamn your Vulcan blood.

Not everything.
Look at it this way...
The DCU still has an integrated timeline, meaning that the JSA and JLA both exist on the same earth. As do the Freedom Fighters, the Marvel Family, etc.
They never really needed to get rid of the multiverse, they just needed to find a way to get that integrated timeline. Which MUST stay. It's much cooler when the JSA guys are the inspiration for the modern heros.
But now, there's a new multiverse, with different versions of the characters. It's a way to build different franchises without killing people with continuity, I think. But the continuity freaks will still have "New Earth" (which is the modern equivalent of "Earth One")

Marv Wolfman himself, the man who killed Barry in the first place, always said he left a loophole to bring him back.
Again, in theory, I'm against this. Wally is MY Flash, really. But the bottom line is, there hasn't been a decent Flash comic published in over 2 years.
But, I can't possibly doubt this creative team. At all. These are the same guys who fixed Hal Jordan, and who told the single greatest Green Lantern story I've ever read (and I've read many) with the Sinestro Corps War.

Good points all around. I've heard the same thing from Wolfman but I always assumed he meant the month in the future loophole...not a "he's back for good in the present" loophole.
I dunno...Hals "fall" was fucked up from the word go. Marz was carrying out DC's orders but he was a total douchebag about it.
Barry went out BEAUTIFUL. And Wally is the only "replacement" in recent comic history to equal his predecessor in my eyes. I hope they keep him around.

I agree with, and SHARE, all your concerns. Wally West (and Dick Grayson) are possibly the two most interesting characters DC has, and have been so for the last 20 years!
But, if you haven't already, carefully read that interview with Geoff Johns. Stare at that incredible image of Barry. And then tell me if it doesn't change your mind a little bit.
This is in the best possible hands.

The only Flash that's Barry Allen to me is the TV Flash. Otherwise, it's Wally all the way. The current run is pretty weak, though, I gotta say.
If done right, this is gonna be just swell, Barry's return.

i give up on any lasting continuity , whatever is done will be un-done. the point of the CRISIS was to streamline and consolidate and whack a few second tier characters to make it epic.
the point of byrne's superman was related and had the same goal.
shortly after supermans ressurrection , dc writers have made a consistant campaign to UNDUE the crisis and byrne superman . even taking luthor make to a mad-scientist on the loose in a supersuit.
how many summers in a row have we had "ULTIMATE / CRISIS " storylines that promise to set everything on its ear ?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
there some intense FLASH stories a few years ago- i loved it when they had him stuck in a time warp and he lost 10 years of his life and was scarred and gritty when he returned, that was ballsy - but they deballed and undid it,

I really hope all this stirring up of shit leads to a complete re-do of everything in DC. Starting over completely. Telling every superhero's story from day one or something like that in a different way. Not too varying from the mythos of each character, of course, but...I dunno. A little changeup would be cool.
I would LOVE to see Superman and the Flash and Batman and Green Lantern learn how to become who they are. Like start each series with an origin issue up to the point of their first appearance, and that's where the rest of the series lines should go from. No huge jumps in time. We see the development of all our favorite heros.
Cool? Ambitious? Stupid? I dunno. Whatcha think, fuckers?

Ambitious, but somewhat unnecessary. I think that they've been doing similar storytelling with GL like that, and batman's motivations are pretty clear and have been covered endlessly, also Superman hasn't really been about motivation instead being about what he does. BTW, Flash Rebirth makes me go all giggity giggity.

Kev, interestingly enough, after the ORIGINAL Crisis On Infinite Earths, the plan WAS for every single DC book to start over with #1, and then go from there. It only really happened with Superman and Wonder Woman, and to a lesser extent Green Lantern.
It'll never happen now. And I'm fine with that. The general line about DC continuity these days is that "everything happened". They're trying to find a way to respectfully (but not ridiculously) incorporate all of the important things that made these characters great from the beginning.

so the first issue was pretty good, not GL: Rebirth quality, but still pretty good. I think what makes the tension not as high is the fact that Barry has already returned (in final Crisis) at the beginning of the series. I really enjoyed the fastest man alive commenting on how fast people live their lives today, text messages, internet ect...

Good call. It's funny, as my first thought when I read GL Rebirth #1 all those years ago was, "Man, I'd KILL to see this guy draw a Flash book!".
I think this is gonna work. I really do. And I was plenty skeptical when it was first pitched. however, there's a glut of speedsters here. Here's what I think should happen....
I think Jay is probably a dead man. I hate to say it, as he's my favorite Flash, but I don't think he's long for this world. Bart is obviously gonna stay with the Titans. But Wally's tricky...
Wally is arguably the most interesting character DC has (Dick Grayson really gets that nod), as he's the guy who UNLIKE SPIDER-MAN was ALLOWED to not only grow up, but become respected by his peers and the community. He's more "my" Flash than Barry. So, he can't just be marginalized...and he's earned the name and the boots.
My thoughts? Send Wally to the 31st Century. Johns' old/improved/classic adult Legion needs a speedster, and I think Wally would fit right in.

Reading the ending, I was kind of confused. Did Barry kill Wally? WTF?

Seems like the Speed Force is manifesting itself to hurt or kill its users as some kind of vengeance for Barry getting out somehow? Maybe? I dunno. I get an "island from Lost" sorta feel about it all, for some reason.
Very odd, though. I don't like this Barry Allen much. He's changed. He has no drive. He just has duty. That's no good. This is gonna be weird.
Like it, though! Very intriguing.

Well said. When "CRISIS" first came out, it was extremely exciting to read- as it seemed to be the first 'official' reboot that went across all dc comics- and thought to be the 'only' reboot of that size for the foreseeable future at that time.
Unfortunately, it made too much money, and it's a gimmick now, rather than an event with any real weight.
(To add to the chipping away of creative integrity in comix, if anyone reads any of the fantastic U.K. interview books of the creators of Spiderman or FF from the beginning to the 90's or so, the behind the scenes stories of creators who try to set character bits in motion- then are undone by their successors or new editors for often no good reason are legion. *sigh*)
