I was just talking with Legsy over at the Diner and I think this deserves its own thread. I don't know about you guys, but any time I look at Alex Ross' Superman, I was struck with how much he reminds me of President Ronald Reagan. Now, Legsy said he hadn't made the connection until I brought it up, but it was always obvious to me. I always look at Ross' Superman and think, "Huh, he sees Superman as an all-American type, kinda like how Ronald Reagan was Mr. All American." I always thought Ross INTENDED to make Superman look like Reagan, though I don't know that for sure, but the resemblance between both Reagan and Ross' Superman is so close that I can't even fathom it not being intentional. Doesn't anyone else think, "Reagan", when they look at Ross' Superman? I mean, look at this:

It's the eyes. Reagan had kind eyes. Both Reeve and Reeves had them, too. But yes, there is a striking similarity between Ross' Superman and Ronnie Reagan.

Ross' Superman would fit right in with the leading man archetype of the 40s and 50s. Wrinkles on the face, robust build, and steely blue eyes. Here's a life-sized wax statue that Alex Ross had commissioned of how his Superman would look in reality; Here's Ross posing with the sculptor by the statue;

Anybody see this thread and immediately think of the "Land of Confusion" video with a puppet Ronald Regan wearing the Superman outfit? I know I did.

"Hey, Superman, where are you now? When everything has gone wrong, somehow. The Man of Steel, without power and losing control by the hour."
I did too, and I created the thread.
But at the same time, the similarity between young Regan and Ross' Superman is so close.

Did I not get the memo about Seultron? Why the hate? He delivered nothing. The whole thing about meeting WB could be a lie.

I think as far as this thread goes it's his over-the-top infatuation with Earth's greatest champion, Barack Obama! See here: www.supermancinema.co.uk/special_features/misc/obama/

Claiming Selutron made it all up is a little harsh, don't you think? He provided quality examples of his work and met with Dharmesh (more than once IIRC) on the subject. What would he have to gain by lying? I don't think the book's closed on Selutron just yet, he may surprise us still...

What were you expecting.... another fan cut to download on fanedit.org?? ;D I think you're missing the point of Selutron's endeavors. It's natural to be disappointed that there's no go ahead with a new SII cut yet ( even though it's only been a scant 3 years after the Donner cut with no new Superman film to boot : but don't mindlessly bash him because you're frustrated.

But he never met with WB. I'm know that for a fact.

I don't know much about the Selutron situation, all I know is the outstanding work he did on his ideas for Superman II.
I do know that the internet and the fanboy virtual world can be a vast and deceiving playground, whereby someone chats to someone in the biz momentarily on Facebook or Twiiter and then announces that he's had a meeting with some big wig, where all he's done is tell someone online what his idea was, got a reply "Go for it!! Sounds good!" and thinks he's had an executive meeting!
Believe me, the amount of people I've encountered in the world of low budget film making who have promised something and who is meant to know such and such and the eternal wait and the awkward meetings that dwindle into nothing are endless.
I did hope that Selutron has his foot in a door and that his efforts have had someone acknowledging that more can be done with a Donner cut.
How do you know "Legsy" that he hasn't really any WB executives, has something been said in regards to his interview on Superman Cinema?
Or was it that he met superfan Jim Bowers (who I always think of Uri Geller when I see him on his site, I don't know why) and was promised more that could be given?
Sorry for taking the original issue away about Reagan and Superman, which is most interesting and very realistic the more I think about it. Even so far as imaging Ronald Reagan having breakfast in the White House in his Superman jammies, the red button encased in a crystal dome.....

A person that's in "the know" mentioned his meetings with WB never happened.
