Nah, I think Singer was pressured to cut alot of stuff.
I made a cut with all the Smallville stuff cut back in & it feels MUCH better to me.
Also, I think pretty much everyone would like to see the Return To Krypton sequence.
I mean a few of the deleted scenes I don't care for (Lex & Kitty stuff outside the Fortress, Clark Changing in the Planet Broom Closet, Ma Kent outside the Planet), but the rest of the stuff is really good for me.
My ideal new cut would be to add back in all the Krypton & Smallville stuff & get rid of that artificial grain & stupid color filter.
Then it would be perfect in my eyes.

I completely agree. What I don't get is why all the footage was not made into a director's cut in the first place. When you consider that the movie cost so much to make, the least they could do is use up all the footage and try and regain some of the money in dvd/blu-ray sales... I really don't understand WB, I really don't.

Indeed.
Several other people really enjoyed seeing that material back into the cut as well.

I liked the deleted scenes, as far as I can remember, I felt they should all be in the movie, as well.
See, I LOVE Superman Returns. And I feel like I'd love it even more if it was ten minutes longer but also edited a little tighter and lost a few pointless scenes.

....and lost a few pointless scenes. "Can I borrow your stapler?" comes to mind. What, was Bryan Singer an Office Space fan?

Link: movies.about.com/od/superman/a/superbs061906.htmFrankly, he had say on final cut, so this project shouldn't be called the Bryan Singer cut and even says this is the director's cut. And seeing his interest in doing a director's cut, it would definitely be without him. On another note, does anyone have any sources to back up that the color correction was at the "last minute"? Seems like it was planned to me.

So I guess we can call Singer the anti-Lucas.

So, do we know if draining all the color out was done just for some artistic reason? Or was it to cover up problems with the cgi? (a lot of movies do this: the cg looks less fake if you slap a uniform color/lack of color over everything, hence all the mono-color bleached/blue/green/movies we see these days)

The picture just looks dimmed down for video, not that I understand why. I thought it looked fine theatrically.

There is a Tech issue with the original SR thread.
It happened when I was moving some posts in it.
This is the new Superman Returns discussion thread.

Or an even better analogy would be when Sifo Dias erased that planet from the archives for whatever reason in whichever episode of the prequels.....wait, who was Sifo Dias? Was he even in the film? Goddamnit, I can't get through one day without some asshole bringing up the prequels. Although, they weren't that bad I guess. Except when they were. Which was often.

I was under the impression Sifo Dias became a Sith apprentice after Maul was killed. Or it could have been Dooku or Sidious. I dunno. Now I have a headache. Thanks. ;D

I doubt it since the subject was completely avoided in Episode III.

Kind of hit me this morning-
The whole split I'm realizing with SR may be because Supes is an icon, and the idea of Superman having a son with Lois out of wedlock is so repugnant to some fans (one of my closest friends also says this is a killer for him) that it's like having (almost) a religious figure like Christ having sex in "The Temptation of Christ" movie.
The quality of the movie might not even register to those fans--- the idea already may have closed them off. (Plus maybe not enough action). In other words, if it was another superhero character instead, and called "Supreme (the Image comics version of Superman) Returns" instead, maybe Superman fans might have actually enjoyed it as long as it wasn't SUPERMAN and thought it a good enough film, since it's not tying it into the icon? Just a thought.
(**I know there are a lot of 'SR-not haters/not lovers' here, too--- but I just don't have a proper way to tag that view at the moment) ;p
On the flip side---
Still.... if WB had set the limit on the budget to be lower*, then SR might have still made the same money it did and be considered a giant hit--- as it still hit $400 mil worldwide....so that's not a small feat--- if just having the name "Superman" on a movie guaranteed a hit, then "Superman IV" would have been big office as well.
(* The rumor mill about SR going over budget was smacked by Singer himself, who came out and blasted it. Too much on the line for him to let a label like that stick. James Cameron is known for going over budget, but I don't think he ever defended it- because it was probably true in his case--- although "Titanic" grosses I suppose forgive all...)
