Superman is as recognizable as Jesus Christ in other places on Earth. He's far from finished. ...reminds me of another john lennon quote.... He'll live long after Singer and Jon Peters are dead and buried singer i'll keep, jon peters on the other hand.... who's gonna miss him? (btw- i may be calling a few of you. just , y'know on the phooooonnne. just chatting. maybe around 10:30 EST... no reason. probably be talking a good 45 minutes or so. no reason at all. i'll be on the phone. you'll be on the phone. the record will show i was on the phone...with you. so how could i possibly have been anywhere NEAR the jon peters estate? its ludicris. i was no where near the place. i dont even HAVE a shovel like that. and those boot-prints are not even my size.) Not to mention that the glove DON'T FIT! YOU MUSTA A-QUIT!

Maybe Singer will cast him in the new X-Men movie. as jean grey's boyfriend, a non-mutant nice guy just can't help but like and cyclops has to win her over.

I wish they would at least let us know for certain what is going on with the next superman movie, one minute singer is writing the next script and then they said they may not make one for decades,
maybe we can make our own lol

It now seems that the most likely, most profitable and most popular route to take with a new Superman movie is to go back to the beginning, and offer all that teen angst, romance and superhero action to the Twilight / Harry Potter crowd.
If I was directing, I'd keep hold of Brandon Routh who would only appear late into the film (almost cameo-like) as the grown-up Superman (but feature as the main star in the next sequel).
This new generation deserve a new origin story and my version would begin just like STM, with a short Krypton prologue of 15 minutes, but followed by the main chunk of the film (which would play out like the Smallville TV series, without veering off the Superman lore so much!), with 75 minutes of little 5 year old Superboy scenes / growing up / discovering powers / high school scenes / Lana Lang romance / Death of Pa Kent etc.
Follow this with a 15 minute Fortress scene and a further 30 minute super finale where Clark starts at the Daily Planet and we get Superman's first appearance (like the Helicopter scene). The film would finish there on a high, leaving fans on an extreme high (almost cliffhanger like), eager with anticipation for the sequel a year later.
This 135 minute movie would give all fans something they'd like to see, but perhaps more importantly, would introduce the origins of Superman to a new generation, who would then be eager to see more!....
The sequel could then skip forward again to the events following Superman Returns, picking up on the story of Superman, his son, his relationship with Lois and perhaps the arrival of Doomsday - starring a bulked up, mature Routh in an outstanding role. Perhaps this could daringly be called The Death of Superman.

Isn't there supposed to be an official announcement in January regarding the DC superhero movies? Keeping my eyes and ears open.... any day now.... *sigh*

In talking about studios' sometimes paralyzing effect on superheroes movies getting made, check this bit out from 'aintitcoolnews.com':
"Three weeks ago, just before the holiday break, IESB.net broke the news that SPIDER-MAN 4 was being delayed indefinitely due to a substantial difference of opinion between director Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures on the direction (and the quality) of the screenplay. Sony initially denied this, but, today, the studio is croonin' a different tune: SPIDER-MAN 4 is on hold, and, according to Nikki Finke's source(s), will not be ready to go before cameras this spring. This means you can forget about the film being ready for May 11, 2011."
I know Raimi had Venom forced on him in Spiderman 3- but supposedly he was to get more creative control after #3 turned out- well, the way it did.
Being on the outside of Hollywood- I wonder: with stories like this, is it just normal for ALL major studios to paralyze or over-tamper with superhero films?
((At the same time: "Superman Returns"/ "Dark Knight"/ "Watchmen" all got released with (from what I can tell) little or no studio interference..... and we've been discussing /speculating endlessly on the Singer/MOS situation and who's possibly to blame- So why is it sometimes WB does the right thing and other times not in backing its director? Again, is it primarily the head of the studio that makes these calls or committee vote?))
Anyways- the Sony news on the mess that seems to be Spiderman 4 just fuels the wish even more that SOMEONE in the know eventually can write a book and explain just how and why these things get so mucked up - and apparently not just at Warner Bros. and not just Superman.
*ugh*

The worst part of the whole thing is that there won't be ANY Superman on film or screen except for what inhabits the CW already. Until this lawsuit happens to finish up, everything is on hold. Well, except the books. I still have those, at least.

It's got unanimous praise, quite the surprise. You can't fail with Downey Jnr though.
Maybe divorcing Madonna was good for Ritchie?

Liked parts of Sherlock Holmes and the concept, but on the whole, the 'event' theatre I saw it at seemed pretty underwhelmed and there were a lot of open irritated 'yawns' throughout the theatre, though I also know a few friends that were blown away by it and thought it amazing.
But.... what does this have to do with Superman Returns?

Just the fact that some studios know a sure thing - and some don't

Hopefully, they'll star showing Superman Returns with Batman Begins rather than Catwoman.

Has anyone heard anymore about the Siegel lawsuit? Does this have to be settled before another movie can be made?

I thought I'd heard something was supposed to be announced about the DC superhero movie slate being announced in January--- (and among the slate, ASSUMING Superman's fate also mentioned)---
But- given that WB/DC has been so slow (mostly) in getting these things rolling for YEARS, one can't help but wonder if the Siegel lawsuit wouldn't have made all that much difference, anyways to WB's speed....
