You read "Brandon Routh will not star in the film" and you assume the film will suck. Well, you did say Goyer sucks. Goyer has a pretty good track record, I for one am excited.

Aye, Routhy is the one losing here. It's sad, but this is still fantastic news. The last thing we need is an origins story, from the looks of this, it's going to start of with BAM! WE'RE IN METROPOLIS!

aint it cool news says story isn't accurate... www.aintitcool.com/node/44074David S. Goyer To probably end up writing SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL!!! Hey folks, Harry here... So just a while ago I just got off the phone with Thomas Tull at Legendary Pictures who told me that the story that appeared over on LATINO REVIEW just frankly isn't true. Tull has not unilaterally hired Goyer to come in and write the new SUPERMAN. He loves Goyer, but frankly - the project isn't at the Script stage yet. Seems Nolan is still hatching some ideas. But he just wanted me to pass on that they have the highest enthusiasm for this project, but the story on Latino just isn't accurate. I'll see what more I can find out, but as of right now, there really isn't anything else to tell. Beaks here... The fine fellas at Latino Review just landed a huge (if not entirely unexpected) scoop: Legendary Pictures has hired David S. Goyer to write the screenplay for THE MAN OF STEEL. The minute I heard Nolan was "godfathering" this project, I figured he'd entrust this reboot to his story-spinning partner on the last three Batman movies. And here we are! Interestingly, Latino Review's source doesn't mention Nolan once. He credits Legendary head Thomas Tull with bringing on Goyer to craft a fun, John Byrne-esque script that will apparently have no ties to the Christopher Reeve pictures or Bryan Singer's attempted continuation of them (so no Brandon Routh). Fine by me. He also says the film will (blessedly) not be an origin story, and will involve Lex Luthor and Brainiac (commence freaking out about villain overkill... now!). It will also reflect contemporary society - i.e. The Daily Planet it taking in the shorts like every other daily newspaper in the world. Head to Latino Review for the full scoop.

We had a suffering Daily Planet in SIV already! I want Brandon Routh back! What are they gonna do... Go for someone even younger looking, to make Superman a 21 year old when, if this is a sequel, and Clark Kent's been at The Planet for several years, then a 32-year old Routh would be perfect. But someone tell me what the heck is Brainiac exactly, what are his origins and how does he pose any threat to Superman? Is it something to do with a super-computer that gets too smart (i.e. Superman III !!!!) ??

You read "Brandon Routh will not star in the film" and you assume the film will suck. Well, you did say Goyer sucks. There is one thing that would make me pretty happy about the next Superman movie: "Tom Welling will Not star in the film." ;D

Variety claims it's true... www.variety.com/article/VR1118015706.html?categoryid=13&cs=1 What I don't get is that if this is just a "Superman Story" why not bring back Routh? Why can't it be a revamp/retool rather than flushing what previously did work? Seriously this would be like firing Reeve and the rest of the original cast because Donnar wasn't making the film they wanted and wouldn't make the sequel they wanted.

Then again, it is still early on, isn't it? I mean, we haven't heard official confirmation that Routh is out.
Perhaps in the meantime, positive thinking? I mean, it couldn't hurt.

The story isn't quite true -- I don't believe they are moving that fast. I'm still not sure of Nolan's involvement despite it being in the trades. Online news outlets are being somewhat optimistic.

i HIGHELY doubt Welling is even being considered for the role, but if he is cast i will not see the movie. That's a bit extreme isn't it? I mean I'm a Smallville fan myself and I didn't boycott SR nor would I have boycotted any SR sequels. I can accept both Welling and Routh, they're completely different versions of the character. Isn't there room for more than one interpretation (ie. the Donnerverse one)? I've said this before but heaven help whoever's cast as the new Superman. He will feel the wrath of both Welling and Routh fans. Beware the internet, my friend. Of course I'm still not sure what's true and what's not at this point. It's gone back and forth on the Nolan and Goyer stories both so I'll wait for an official announcement.

That's a good point-
Here's a thought: It's possible that they simply asked Nolan: "Are you interested?"--- and that Nolan might have said "Maybe....but before I commit, let me think about some ideas first, and run them by WB..."
Thus, the unofficial announcements? Possible?

From DarkHorizons
UPDATE (12/25): IGN is now claiming that "The Dark Knight" co-scribe Jonah Nolan will be working with Goyer on the project and that the studio is gunning to get the project moving. IESB claims that Jonah Nolan has already handed in a first draft of "Batman 3". No-one has yet made any official comment on any of this at present, making this still all conjecture for now.
IF this is true, then good news. IMO Goyer is a decent writer and a horrible director. BUT he does know his comic books. When he teamed with Nolan on Batman they kicked ass. From what I have heard Nolan pretty much wrote BB, and J Nolan wrote TDK. Goyer basically was the go to guy make sure it was tied into the Batman universe. If he can do this for Superman than LET's GO! But PLEASE! GOD PLEASE don't let him direct it! FOR FUCKS SAKE PLEASE NO!
