He'd be banned and kicked out of the secret forum. We've never had one of those here. We've no need for one. We're not that insecure.

So true! ;D Ye5man: of course I know about the negative comments. duh! But the positive comments also exist, and it feels good to post some of those in the SR threads. Don't like it? Don't read them! Oscars are like Pulitzers. No-one remembers what you got them for. Just that you got them. Nice Agreed. loved Langella as Perry.

An idea: Mav- How about two threads- "Superman Returns Appreciation Only Thread" and "Superman Returns Disliked/Hate Only Thread"---
That way people can hate it, without constantly being told the virtues of it--- and those who love it can share it with others who love it, without always being told /trying to be convinced that it's not that great?
Secure or not secure, sometimes the same back and forths get tiring....

I thought of that too CAM but you know there will be cross posting.
Mav would spend all day moving posts back and forth between threads.

What about people like me, who LOVED the movie upon release, but over time have come to be profoundly irritated by significant chunks of it? Can we have our own thread too?

Or everybody could try and be a little less defensive, not be compelled to respond when someone posts an opinion you disagree with.
...yeah, I don't see that happening either.

Shogun & Val said it better than I could. Another one is, those who don't care about SR could just like stay out of this thread as much as possible. That one I cannot agree with. I say everyone is welcome in the thread. I do however question why some people only feel compelled to bash it only when certain people are expressing love for it. Or something like that. Ugh, lots of certains there ;D ;D ;D Anyway, everyone carry on loving & hating. And everyone feel free to quote anyone else's love or hate for the film whether it be from the real world or the net world. Neither makes you insecure. Neither means you are attempting to bolster. It just means you are expressing your pleasure that someone else sees things the way you do.

I prefer Superman Returns over The Dark Knight.
That's a film that gets worse with each viewing for me

I think TDK's editing seems to make it much better than what it really is.
Last couple of times, I skipped through the Cable Car stuff near the end. Found it so boring to re-watch.
Mind you, I skip at least 80% of Superman Returns every time I stick it on, lol, so what does that tell you?

TDK is really crap, and come to think of it, Batman Begins isn't that great either.
I think those movies both benefitted from the novelty factor at the time.

Wow, I'm shocked. Well, if that's the case, then definitely what we look for in superhero films are VERY different. (Not bad, just very different.) I think TDK is a superior film to SR- but that's because I thought both the Joker & Batman storylines were very tight- whereas in SR, the Luthor storyline just wasn't all THAT interesting or compelling. I mean, it works to help move to the next plot point, but that's about it- (And that's about 1/3rd or more of the film)

I have only seen TDK once. It was alright, but definitely not crap. But I found the Joker character pretty shallow overall. Yes, it was very well played by Ledger, but I never understood why he was so bad.
Lex in SR had more depth, imo. His hatred for Supes was very real, I could feel the history between those two. And I loved Spacey in the role. I also enjoyed Ledger in that role, btw.

Yeah, I respect anyone's opinions...but to say Superman Returns is a better film than The Dark Knight is truly pushing the envelope in getting their points across in terms of saying they don't like TDK. It's like saying one of those Richard Chamberlain/Allan Quartermain movies is better than Indiana Jones just to say Indiana Jones isn't any good.

To some people SR is better and more enjoyable than TDK. What's wrong with feeling that way? People like different things.
Not everyone in the world thinks TDK is a masterpiece or the best film ever in the history of mankind.

I can understand if you enjoy Superman Returns more than The Dark Knight, but for individuals that don't really like Superman Returns and say it's a better film than The Dark Knight...well, it just leaves me speechless. ;D

I've also encountered some who like both SR and TDK about equally. Really, people have different tastes on movies/music/etc.

TDK is very talky and pretentious. Some good action, but feels quite empty as a whole movie. SR is boring but does have weight to it IMO.
Joker is brilliant though, truly one of the all time cinema comic book villains.
And he didn't do disgusting things to a 90 year old

Gazer, let's just say this whole thread leaves me speechless, which is why I rarely post in it. ;D
Like I said, I have no problems with everyone's countering opinions on the film. But yeah....I've read stuff here that's made me shake my head numerous of times. Nevertheless, it is entertaining in a morbid way....
