www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YpZJVgiHksWasn't sure if this fits the comic books subforum, as it doesn't have Superman in it, but between the Superman cinema forum and the forum that talks about comic book characters, maybe it's ok here- lemme know. Anyhow- Bought "American Psycho" with Christian Bale and saw different possibilities for a fan cut--- I was originally thinking of rotoscoping Angelina Jolie (who was rumored to want to play Catwoman), but thought better of NOT starting any new rotoscope projects. But still--- wanted to get use out of the movie as much as possible. Originally, was going to also cut in bits of Jim Carrey's Riddler (he looks great in the suit--- although the Tim Burton look really doesn't match Nolan's more realistic take on Bats).... but would like to take in a list of others' ideas of fan trailers of stuff that they'd like to see for the Dark Knight sequel... Can't guarantee I'll have the energy to do them- (even without roto, editing sure eats up time), but, depending on footage, would like to do one or two more first-. So, anyhow, just throwin' it out there & hope the trailer (although with the normal sound issues of mixing in dialogue that has totally different music that can't be hidden) is fun. Thanx!

that was pretty cool. have to say that the voice over worked perfectly and gave me a vision of what Batman 3 should be. It would be great to see Bruce start to really crack up, especially since he's going to be a hunted man from here on out.

Thanks Belloq! Glad you enjoyed it-
Like everyone else, I so hope that Nolan/Goyer are left alone to do Batman 3 however way that they wish. Batman going off on the deep end after losing Rachel and his connection to Gordon at the end of TDK feels plausible to me as a continuance for B3, if they choose.
Still...
Given the recent shocking news of Sony's deciding on a reboot so soon for Spiderman, I hope that doesn't mean that all superhero films get a 1-2 film shelf life before reboots at this point at that we'll be deprived of B3 regardless of what Nolan/Goyer want to do. *sigh*

it drives me crazy, that 1,2, and done shit. i never thought i'd see the day, but television has far surpassed movies in visual storytelling. hollywood films no longer have the attention span to tell an epic serial tale the way television can a'la Lost, The Wire, Buffy, Angel, etc., etc., etc.,. LOTR, Harry Potter, and the likes have already been told. You just adapt a movie. Simple as that. With comic movies, you are allowed tons of freedom because there is no straight way to show the story. Its been told, retold, retold again, and never really ended as an arc in any of the tellings. translating comics to film gives the opportunity to have a real arc. a beginning, a middle, and an end. the studios can't seem to keep from fucking it up, however. comic movies are becoming comics themselves: tell half a story, don't finish it, start telling it again a different way, don't finish it, start again and so on and so forth. its kind of funny, really. studios won't allow an ending to a franchise because they don't want to shut the door on the money it can bring in, which would never happen anyway because they can't help but reboot the damn thing every ten minutes. just once i'd like to see an LOTR type of comic book movie experience. 9 hours or so of story where the hero quits or dies or whatever it takes to have the words "The End" at the final scene of the last film.

Well said, could not agree more.
A couple of points I wanted to add to:
#1: You're totally right- It's ironic: comic books themselves have become bad soap operas with reboots so fast that it's ridiculous, and movies have followed suit, when, instead, they could have made true LOTR-like 'epics' that have artistic merit far beyond just making a buck.
#2: It seems more and more like there ARE directors who want to do great sequel/ comic book epics (like Singer who wanted to do Xmen 3 & 4 back to back or Sam Raimi who wanted to do a great Spiderman 4).... but because they don't own the property like George Lucas, they're REALLY at the mercy of the studios.
I used to be totally pissed at the Salkinds for firing Donner- but now it seems some of the studios are at times worse at interfering with a good thing that's already set. (At least the Salkinds got a film MADE and didn't sit on properties to languish in development heck)
#3: I am so with you there on tv getting to be better experiences over film in telling stories over a long time that can have a great beginning, middle, and END, with a similiar impact of a great novel (or a long running comic book series that isn't fixed on rebooting itself).
If Singer were able to be in control of and produce an "Xmen" tv series, like he does "House", (assuming he would be free to control the series as he likes), how great would that be?
For now, I often argue with friends that the best 'comic book tv series' is actually "Angel", "Battlestar Galactica", or "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", even though they're not based on comic books--- they have the flavor of some of the best comic book series I've read--- but have real 'final acts' that superhero movie franchises won't allow.
It's a pity that Marvel Studios chose to be bought out so fast..... given how fast they delivered some genuinely great comic book movies with continuity--- I wonder how things would have been had they made 10 or 12 properly made Marvel comic book adaptations without reboots?
If nothing else, hopefully Marvel was able to embarrass some of the studios into action, but it seems more often than not, Hollywood takes the WRONG actions when they actually do something. *sigh*
Maybe cable tv is a possible best hope for a great long superhero epic with quality....
#4: Btw, have heard excellent things about "the Wire", but haven't seen it yet- (It's supposedly Alan Moore's favorite tv show, too). "Six Feet Under" and "Rome" top my own favs for all-time best cable shows- also "Friday Night Lights" which is mindblowing.)

agreed on all counts. i really hope Marvel's little movie universe give us something really special, but to me the Marvel mythologies don't compare to the DC ones, and with WB's track record, who the fuck knows if they'll ever try something like that?
and you gotta check out The Wire. its incredible.
