Oh well, so much for my attempt at serious casting discussion... take it easy friend- once somebody says its a period piece with no basis then we HAVE to pile on with deliberately nutty ideas. personally i liked all your suggestions except bomer. i'm as tall as bomer and i'm waaaaayyyy too short to be superman.

OK, here's my totally-above-board casting list:
Ilya Salkind as Lex Luthor
Bryan Singer as Jimmy *Olsen*
The *Olsen* Twins as Lois Lane (hey, they're interchangeable, and if one dies ... )
Steve Martin as Superman/Clark Kent (c'mon, you KNOW it makes sense)
Orson Welles' ghost as Jor-El
Brian May as Pa Kent (needs a long-haired British touch, I feel)
Halle Berry as Ma Kent (instant acting upgrade!)
Former American President George W. Bush as Perry White
Now, how can this fail to turn a fortune?
Score!

superman homepage just had a blip of a recent nolan interview that reinforced he is keen to produce it and he'll wait and see what goyer comes up with.
i know some folks are annoyed/disappointed that nolan is about one character- one universe and not interested in the team-up/ensemble approach favreau is using. i get that, however- given the track record- i am satisfied that they are concentrating on gettng single character RIGHT RIGHT- and then we'll worry about other characters.

;D If that's the direction of casting, then I propose: * Larry David as Lex Luthor * Jason Alexander as Brainiac * Matt Damon as Jimmy Olsen * Rosie O'Donnell as Lois Lane * Michael Richards (Kramer) as Jason Lane (or was it Jason White) * Jerry Seinfeld as Superman/Clark Kent

Well all this is good news. Nolan should be able to make a damn good Superman film, but I'm just wondering even though he got Batman right and The Dark Knight is the 2nd highest grossing movie of all time, is he gonna get Superman right?
I think he will, but something is in the back of my mind say this might be to god to be true.
I really hope that they keep Routh. He's still young, he's way more in shape now than he was during production of SR, and overall, everyone liked him as Superman despite what everyone thinks about the movie itself.
I'm excited about this and i want more news, and I don't want to wait another 3 years or so to see this movie. Make it NOW WB!!!

Well said- I think you've nailed the potential 'backlash' problem already with Nolan: Someone, like, say McG or Brett Ratner-- if they were chosen, expectations would be so low, that if they made an ok or 'good' Superman movie came out, they would be hailed as exceeding expectations and not so bad after all. Nolan, after TDK, has to, on some level, feel the weight of the world on his shoulders to deliver- because if the Superman movie doesn't knock people out of their socks right from the get-go..... or if it 'only' makes a billion dollars like TDK- it'll appear as a step backwards for him- maybe leading to ANOTHER reboot with a new actor/director. Gah!

As long as it's an option and the actual movie doesn't look stupid in 2D, then I don't care.

I agree. 3D was touted as the answer to get people to have an extra reason to go to the theatres to watch movies instead of just waiting for the dvd or just watching it on the internet prior to it coming out--- with "Avatar"'s grosses, damned if Cameron wasn't right with his predictions, so far.....

It's a fad, and as CAM said a response to piracy and the fast turnaround of DVDs and BluRays. The same thing happened when television was invented and when home video started to take off. It'll pass...at least I hope it will.

The fad is only going to stop once people stop getting suckered into seeing a movie where you have to wear glasses. Seeing Alice's returns isn't promising. It's only going to get worse. Just imagine where it will hit rock-bottom....rom-coms starring Jennifer Aniston's hard nipples in 3D.
3D is such a bad idea. It discriminates against those with only one eye.
....or those with good taste.

It's a technology that's been around in some form since the 19th century. I don't think it's going to disappear. It's a fad, but it will never really go away.

You're right Jimbo- it will get worse- Anyone remember John Waters' "Smellovision"? (For the uninitiated, strips of scented paper were passed out during the movie, then you would scratch off numbered patches when the appropriate scene came up- signalled by blinking numbers in the right hand corner of the movie-- filling the movie auditorium with that particular smell for the duration of the scene, if everyone was compliant- although the scent I'd heard would linger in the room longer than anyone wanted. When smellovision comes back, be sure to avoid late shows when they forget to air out the room...) I see a comeback to the theatres, with 3d. It has been foretold by the ancient Mayans. And...believe it or not, I'm not making up Smellovision. It really existed in history. It return......RETURN.... RETURN!!!!!

I read a few articles after 'Avatar' and when 'Alice' opened up in 3d--- saying pretty much the same thing. From a money point of view, it was a saving grace for the movie biz during hard times.... if saving movie theatres means having to have a lot of nonsense in 3d non-stop, so be it- so long as good 2-d screens are still available with the 3d....
