Just a thought:
When watching STM, I'd long thought about all the years that zoomed by during the Smallville years and thought it might have made for a good tv series in and of itself. When Ilya Salkind's "Superboy" series was announced, I couldn't help but wonder: "Cool.... but how are they going to make it fit into the continuity of the Donner film? Are they even going to try?"
Well, we got the answer. There was no attempt. (Not even an attempt to make it any good, until the second season, for that matter, but...)
With the new "Smallville", there are admittedly nods, but that's a whole other thread.
So---
Imagine this:
Back to the time between STM and SII--- Jeff East is available, and they decide to try to do a 'Smallville/Superboy' series at that time.
While it seems pretty clear that Clark doesn't learn to fly until the training in the Fortress of Solitude in STM--- it's also vague enough that he COULD have already have been flying or have been 'the big blue blur' or whatever during his days in Smallville while wearing the costume, but just keep it on the downlow, so to speak.
To me, I might have enjoyed it, with Jeff East at the time- and if there were close enough ties to try to fit it into the Donner continuity, the flying/ costume use notwithstanding (the idea being that- like the early Byrne Superman- that he kept on the move fast enough while doing his heroics that no one sees his face until years later with the helicopter rescue).
Thoughts? Would this alternative tv series seem like something you might have watched, or something doomed to fail? I thought Jeff East was great as young Clark, and thought there could have been smaller stories at that time with maybe a miniseries, if not series.
(*Since this was outside of the norm for "Smallville", thought to make this a different thread, but mods, of course feel free to lock if deemed too similiar. Thanx)
