How was this effect achieved, where the baby Superman crashes down to earth in the rocketship, specifically when he lands near to the Kent truck, and you see, from the POV of the rocket, the ship going to the ground very quickly......
I think this looks great, yet its never mentioned (to my knowledge) in any books or makings of.
Im guessing that its speeded up > As it does look a bit like this, but I cant explain why!
Any answers or references folks ?

I'm guessing it was filmed from a helicopter. The heli moves across the road the Kent truck is moving down ... the viewpoint then starts to zoom in on the field. Maybe it is more likely that the zoom does not happen in-camera, and that it is created in post-production. Playback is then speeded up.

I was thinking the same thing, but poss all done in camera, maybe slow frame, 1 frame a second record and an optical zoom on the end, then normal playback for the speed.

Probably shot at a slow speed. Speeding up and slowing down were done in camera using various speeds a lot back then.

hmmm...those posts bring up some really good questions...going to watch the special features sections on my copy of STM. I think it's also mentioned there how they did that.

It could have been done in CGI?
