I have asked this for YEARS ;D
So, does he like, have a little Crystaline Garage?
And why THAT car?
Is there a Crystaline road that connects to the main road?
I'm glad I'm not the only one ;D ;D ;D

I'm usually the kind of person that can use the imagination when certain details are left out (within reason), but this goes beyond logic. Lois wasn't dressed properly to go on a north pole hike to civilization. ;D

I was always curious for years after the theatrical came out how this was supposed to/ going to have been handled by Donner & Mank.
When I finally got a copy of the Donner script (way before the internet), was more than a little startled to find out how they explained how they got the car---
Essentially- in the Mank script, RIGHT AFTER the Honeymoon Haven 'blank bullets' reveal.....the script jumps to Supes and Lois preparing to cook at the FOS--- there IS no sequence of Supes flying Lois there, in the Donner script!
They intentionally left it out so as to not have to explain the car or what method they used to GET there in the first place!
Pity that Mank/Donner never addressed in more detail what they would have done specifically in the commentary--- whether they would have actually created a transition scene or just kept the 'gap' in the script there....

Considering how much got changed, I'm sure they would've came up with something. At this point it's silly to rely on the script as a way of figuring out what Donner and Mank's true vision is. Either way, I was thinking about rotoscoping out Richard Pryor from that scene in 3 when Supes is carrying him, and put a similar looking car in his place. Maybe even rotoscope the entire shot out of flying over forests and show him flying over the arctic. I was even going to find a way to work in Superman landing in the junkyard and finding it there. Cut to him smiling, then cut to him carrying it.
Now, in my head this LOOKS like it could work, as it gives us an explanation but plot-wise, it ends up raising more questions than answers. Why would someone leave a perfectly working car there in a junkyard, does it have a full tank of gas, and did Superman have to pay for it or did he steal it?
I suppose I'll try getting the shot done as just practice when I start learning how to do rotoscoping, but I won't be creating this new scene unless I can find a way to make the story work. I would need a plot device to show how the car got there. Right now the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to show some sort of bank robbery from another film and maybe find footage, or create a scene of the car being dropped off there in the junkyard and the crooks running away. This would have to be earlier in the film of course. Or maybe I can digitally remove Lana and Ricky from one of the shots in part 3 during the picnic scene and have Superman "see" it on the street from above, smile, and THEN cut to him carrying it. but again, this makes him a thief. Of course, none of this explains to us WHY he's doing this. Granted WE'LL know because we know this story front and back, but plot wise it NEEDS to make sense. The only way I could see this happening is if I were to somehow use the Lara footage from S2, have Superman talk to his mother first, but NOT have the chamber appear, and then somehow have Supes fly away and find the car while Lois is still getting changed.
Or maybe just have a scene early in the story where Superman brings the car there just as a precautionary measure. Or perhaps have a shot of the car sitting outside the fortress earlier in the film. Or how about using the deleted Lex escape with the car scene and make it look like Lex and Eve DROVE to the FOS and left it somewhere close by when they switched to the snowmobile. This way the car that Clark and Lois take to the diner is the very same car that Lex used to escape.
Ugh. I give up lol.

My own take when the Lester version came out was that maybe Donner/Mank might have had some underground tunnel to have a short-cut back to civilization (visually like the snow tunnels in Empire Strikes back for the rebel base), that Lois and Clark would have walked through, opening at a hidden location, then rented a car at a nearby city once they left the tunnel. Wouldn't have been more than a couple of shots of Clark & Lois doing this to bridge the gap. I figure if Supes was the type to think way ahead (besides, he never put any defenses to block human beings to enter this thing anyways, why not a separate entrance?), after all those years of having nothing but ice, a big bed, and a coffee table to make souffles on, you'd think he'd add SOMETHING to the darn fortress.

Where's the fortress meant to be anyway? North Pole or top of Canada/Alaska? Because he had to walk there in STM too.

Its all Lesters/Neumans falt
It looks like old Donner footage....Driving through the Rockies. Take a good look at the car. It looks like the same car Lex wrecked in the 1st Superman so he could do his "crazey rocket distarction thing"

In the old comics, it was in the North Pole. In STM, Clark had his powers, so he would have had no problems surviving to get there. With a de-powered Clark, I would have thought that at least the depowered Clark would have had a backpack for food/water, at the very least- but since the Donner footage always had Clark in the same jacket as he had in the diner (and nothing else)....
