whoa! you guys seen this? mark waid, obviously one the BEST comic writers ever has a new series- i just read the first trade and it is intense! ok- so, some comics like "watchmen" try to explore the cynical angle of "what if they were real?"- and "the incredibles" sort of does the same in a lighter way. but "irredeemable" takes it further... a lot further. IF superheroes were real- and you had a super-team, and sidekicks... who knew your secret identity- who knew your weaknesses- and you knew thiers... how long before you got sold out? how long before a disgruntled sidekick blows the whistle on your ID? how long before a team mate gets whacked on drugs and sells you out for money? how long before a noble/benign superhero becomes nihlist then hostile then homicidal? at a glance it looks like a superman homage, and there hav ebeen plenty of "superman the fascist" stories- but this- this is altogether something else.

Been meaning to check this out. I've found Waid hit and miss in recent years (Birthright was a notable "miss" for me), but the guy has done so much wonderful stuff (including his FUCKING AMAZING Captain America stuff from the late 90s) that he's always worth a look for me.
May try to get this from the library.

The way you're describing it Jor, it sounds part Daredevil/Karen Page/Kingpin story, part Black Summer. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Summer). If its anywhere near as dark as Black Summer, I think it'll be interesting. I'll check it out.

Oh no shit! It's new? I saw it at the comic shop today, I didn't recognize it. Didn't look at it beyond the title, though. Sounds interesting!
